Are Reality Shows replacing Sitcoms?

What's worse, reality shows or terrible sitcoms? Both offer cheap brainless entertainment. Sitcoms have declined over the passed years.

Sitcoms are out, Reality in. God knows, and dreads, what will replace Reality.

The reality shows aren't even 'reality'.
Who can be 'real' with a camera stuck in their face and production crews running all over the place.

Sitcoms are dying because all the 'situations' have already been tried at least 43 times.

I don't watch a lot of TV anymore; the quality of programming has been going downhill over the last decade or so. First the sitcoms turned bad, and now un-reality shows are popping up all over the place! Unfortunately, because ratings and advertising $ are all the network execs care about, I can't see any improvement in the near future. TV sucks! 🙁

Well, I just never watch the major networks. I just watch the History/Discovery Channels and their brood, Sci-fi, and Cartoon Network. No reality or 'coms there.

I believe that reality shows, however contrived and unrealistic, are popular because the emotion is real. That is, somebody who has just lost his or her chance to win big bucks (or a chance at celebrity) is genuinely unhappy. People do like to see misery on camera, so they watch.

Of course, when the winner eventually emerges, his or her joy is real, too, and people do like to see that, especially if they have gotten to like the contestant.
