As the days went on, Ross was feeling really, really troubled.
Ross's pain seemed to be not bad during the day, and almost intolerable at night. Thus, Ross was able to go into the oifice, and most days, work his usual 8 or 9 to 6 day, and get home by 7, which helped keep him in good standing with Kayley, both personally, and sexually.
Ross was able to have a lunch meeting with Victor. Ross explained to Victor that in Ross's current condition, Ross could not possibly even consider interviewing any other candidates for what Victor did. Ross got Victor to agree to a 90 day extension. For such, Ross gave Victor a fifty percent salary increase, and a three month bonus, at the level of the new salary.
Even though Ross was feeling better, and Kayley knew such, Kayley was watching Ross like a hawk.
The couple managed to get to Pennsylvania for a three day weekend. Ross closed a deal with three other men to start work on a "Business Center " in Hanover, PA, between Harrisburg and Lancaster that would take no more than 24 months to build. The investment would be five million for each man, and would be recouped when the Center rented and sold it's offices and shops. It would prove to be a nice, quick little deal.
In the car on the way home to Forest Hills from Hanover on Monday night, Kayley said.
"Good weekend, on all fronts. How do you really feel?" She asked.
Ross sighed. "A bit tired, but it was a very productive weekend. Kale, you know that with me getting Vic to agree to stay for three months, I have to get to OKC I would like to go within this week" Ross said cautiously.
"Your head? The truth! I cant see because we are in a dark car, but I will know if you're lying" Kayley said.
Ross sighed again. "Fine, the truth, as I've told you before, it is on and off. There are times no pain, times a little, and times a lot. How about I run into the office for not even a full day tomorrow, just check the place, call Fritz, get together as many people as I can. Three day trip,. I leave Wednesday morning, and do three shows, Wednesday to Friday, and I'm home by late Friday night, or early Saturday morning?" Ross offered.
Kayley herself gave a long, between concerned and annoyed sigh. "Man child gets something, and has to go for more candy. Fine, if you get sick,. do not come crying to teacher for help. I dont want to hear it!" Kayley clipped.
"Stop it, Kayley! I was just out of New York for three days, and I'm okay. Why can I go to PA but not OKC?" Ross argued back without yelling.
"Many reasons. One I was with you in case you felt really sick, two you were not flying, three you were a three hour car ride from home and 150 miles away and not a five hour two plane 1600 mile trip. Geography oh brilliant Ross businessman" Kayley said.
"Okay, then how about this, and don't lose it. I give it two days, see how I feel. Since we were just together for three days, I make plans to leave Thursday, and come home Saturday night. We spend one day together next weekend, and then do something else after that, maybe a little trip to AC or something. Let me just get down there, please" Ross reasoned.
"I dont like it, but I'm going to reluctantly agree. On the condition that you are on the next plane home if you feel even one twinge of abnormal pain" Kayley said.
Ross cuddled near Kayley and whispered. "Yes, Oh Teacher Dom" Ross said as they both cracked up with laughter.
Ross and Kayley got home to Queens, went to sleep, and the next day, Ross went to the office and called Fritz.
"I'm back. I got the guard to take the reins off of me. Do you think we can get together some people if I come down Thursday to Saturday? I have pain meds in me and on me. I'm antsy, I want to do a show, look at some things, and close a deal or two" Ross said.
"Of course, come down on the usual plane on Thursday morning" Fritz said.
"Thanks, buddy, see you then" Ross said.
Victor ran into Ross in the outer office. "Ross, welcome home. May I speak to you in your office?"
"Of course" Ross said, leading Victor to Ross's office and closing the door.
"I've been thinking while you and Kayley were away. I think I was just maybe at my wits end, and I was harsh. RossShell and working for and with you is the only position I really know. Look at how long we've been together and how many projects I've helped you on. I think I may be burned out. I really dont want to leave. I might just need a break" Victor said.
"I will tell you what. Effective immediately. You get a thirty day paid leave of absence that has nothing to do with your usual vacation time. I must go to OKC this Thursday to Saturday to make an appearance. Next week when I get back, your thirty days is yours to use any way you want. Take any time you want now, and just give me a day or two's notice before you come back. Does that sound fair?" Ross said.
"More than fair, and Thank You, Ross" Vic said, as the men bumped fists in commiseration.
Vic left Ross's office, and Ross breathed a huge, huge sigh of relief.
RossShell would stay the same.. for now.
Things looked on track.
Ross would wait out his residual pain until his shot got into his body.
Ross had closed a new deal in Pennsylvania, and would be able to make an appearance in OKC.
After two days work in the office, and two nights of love with Kayley, Ross packed his bag, and he usually did, was now off to his other company, RFS Energy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
As the plane took off, Ross knew he was not at one hundred percent, but he was well enough to go, and he promised his Doctors, Kayley, and Fritz and Steve that he would be on the next plane home if he felt any trouble.
How would the trip to OKC go?
A new deal had been closed, and Victor was staying on, on easier terms for Victor, and a higher salary.
What would happen when Ross got to OKC?
How would Ross feel physically? Would Ross be able to stay the entire trip?
All of that would be seen.
