The thing was she was singing along with a pre-recorded copy of herself to the song the first time she sang that nite...I noticed...and if I noticed, it wasn't hard to pick up on...and I have to say, blaming your BAND for playing the wrong song when your voice came on at the right time, singing the right song, just not coming from your mouth live...not the best way to handle the situation...guess now she's gonna have to pick up the "pieces" of her...wow...Live TV...can't get that anywhere else...

This is why i like rap. You can tell that rap live is not pre recorded, for example 2pac; his stuff was always fresh, this could be seen in how bits n pieces were changed like his song 'hit em up'. Anyway what do u except from pop?? they all do it jus she wasnt any good at it

Update!

The story now is that the night of the performance Ashlee had acid reflux that made her voice hoarse, hence the lip syncing. It was the band's fault for cuing up the wrong vocals.

believe it or not, most artist lip sync on tv. supposedly even the legendary aerosmtih lip synch on the super bowl show. The reason is to ensure no problems when they go live. i even heard many artist do lip sync at live shows because they giving there audience a dance show instead of a concert. The hollywood brother goes to concerts to hear people sing. The hollywood brother do not want the song to sound perfect. the hollywood brother understands why some performers lip sync but the hollywood brother feels that the hollywood brother is not getting what he paid for if he go to kiss, poison, quiet riot, avril, donnas, jinx or whoever and do not get a real live performance

That's why I love bond. 99% of the time no vocals. And any vocals that are added, they have fun w/ it and make a joke out of it cuz they know they cant sing😛 Just four beautiful fun-loving down-to-earth women, and anytime they get on stage, what you hear, is what you get. They wouldnt have it any other way. Yeah they mess up,( I noticed a few mess ups when I saw them live) but they just smile and wink at each other ( and anyone in the audience who noticed the slip up i. e me😛) and go on playing. No lip..oh sorry..bow-synching going on here.😛

About a decade ago Sean Ysealt, bass player for White Zombie, was onstage and was having chronic stomach pain. It was so bad she spent a lot of time doubled over while playing. After the main set, the band went offstage and she let the rest of the group know she was in a world of hurt but still went out to do the encore. After that she was rushed to the hospital and had an emergency appendectamy. She was onstage for an entire two hour show with an appendix that was about to burst.

And then you have Simpson, who had to fake a three minute TV spot because she had gas.

This is why the music industry is in it's death throws people.

Lip synch is nothing new here, folks. I grew up wathing all the variety shows on TV when I was a kid (Sony and Cher, Carol Burrnett, etc.). TRhey all synched there...nothing new....sound slike she got messed up when they played the worng track. As a vocalist, it can be unverving, plus the fact she was on SNL, etc. I'd liek to see how much your voice cracks on stage in that situation....

Calling Ashlee Simpson a vocalist after that debacle is a slap in the face to all the real singers out there who either do the show best they can under the circumstances or simply cancel the show altogether so they won't shortchange the audience. She had a choice, she made it, it backfired, she'll be doing boat shows in a year (if there's any justice.)

Just because lip synching is common that doesn't make it right. It's cowardice. Plain and simple.

My sentiments exactly, MayDay.

Also, it makes them lazy and makes them look half-assed. If someone can't give a performance their all, no matter what, then they don't deserve to be respected the way they are. The only exception is backing out of a performance altogether if singing is not possible.

To try and pull one over on the audiance is very shameful.

Heh...I always thought MOST pop tarts lip synched. It always struck me as sort of odd that they bounce around on the stage for 3 hours and their voice never wavers and they don't run out of breath.

I agree, Mayday. The only real reason to lipsynch in that scenario is:
(1) voice is shot (cold, laryngitis, etc. ) but the producers force you on stage
(2) voice is gone but you have the 'show must go on' mentality

but should never happen, just be honest with the audience and say she is sick and can't perform. It's not as if they came there just to see her anyway. If her throat was that shot (and I've never heard of that happening with GERD (Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease) anyway...that's a VERY long distance for the stomach acid to travel and if it did travel that far, her esophagus would be so torn up she would be in too much pain to do anything) she shouldn't have been up there.

My guess is that, if the reflux excuse is true that (1) she was young and gullible enough to be convinced it was a good idea or (2) they convinced her and 'set her up'. I find it hard to believe that the sound crew there accidently ran the wrong tape. The people in those booths should know what they are doing and I can't see how they would mess up somehting as simple as that. They do too many shows to make an amateur goof like that. Ashlee will get the blame (and she should get half) but the production crew needs to take the hit as well.

I'll also throw this out. Any guesses on how many others have done this WITHOUT getting caught? Sheer logic tells me she wasn't the first........
