"Assistant Oshima" from "Bump in the Night 2"

Well, I've been waiting for a very LOOOONG time to post this.

This is Oshima, assistant to the "Doc" in Bandito's and the White Lotus' current "Bump in the Night" comic series.

Most of you probably don't know,and I don't know if the Bandito has acknowledged it in the comic itself or on the forums or not, but I designed this beautiful cybernetic babe a very long time ago! I'm very happy to say that I did!

Bandito came up with her name inspired by the beautiful Japanese model Hiromi Oshima.,

Back in October 30th, 2008, As the result of winning a contest held on Wild Card Radio (I believe hosted by Dave 2112) Bandito offered the opportunity to the winner to design an "assistant" for the Doc in BITN 2. Of course I was excited to be able to create something along side the Bandito...


After 2 years of emails, some very rough sketches by me (which will be put into scraps for all to see) and delays from other projects from the Bandito, He and The White Lotus finally managed to release the comic! So now I get to release some artwork of my own! It was so hard to keep it a secret...

Unfortunately, I don't know what Oshima looks like other than her appearance on the cover of BITN 2, due to me being broke... 🙁

However I am assuming the Deet did a good job with her...

Bandito's version from what I see on the cover of BITN 2 offers a lot of minor changes to the original design. Since this picture is made from one of her most current earlier concept pics, the picture you see above still retains some elements to the original design that I had for her such as the bow, the cybernetic eye, "utility belt" and the more streamline mechanical arms and legs.

However I like both designs... maybe I'm just biased...LOL

I have also provided the original rough early sketches below.

Sketch 1:
Whoo boy... This is a very VERY EARLY sketch of Oshima (assistant to the Doc in The Bandito and White Lot latest Bump in the Night Comic) in fact this was the first thing I had to offer the Bandito back in 2008.


This was to get an example of what I was looking for in a cyborg chick at the time and everything was subject to change.... hence why this pic and the next concept pics will be the roughest pics you'll see from me! LOL

Sketch 2:
the second of rough sketches...This was the first vision of what I wanted Oshima's body to look like... Bandito liked it so pretty much this was the first stepping stone to the final design in BITN 2

Sketch 3:
As the months go by, my art skill grew...The same went for rough sketches!Here Oshima is starting to take more shape, getting minor changes from the last pic. I opted to give her a full head of hair, to make her a bit more sexier, sacrificing the harder cyborg look.
It just gets smoother along the way folks!

Sketch 4:
This is just to show what Oshima's feet would have looked like on the current revision at the time, since there wasn't a lot of emphasis on her feet in the sketches.Still in the brain storming phase, I brought up the idea to have Oshima's mechanical legs "meld" together at the command of the Doc. The idea was to show how vulnerable Oshima could been since her legs would have served as a pair of stocks as well!

This idea was not used, but maybe I might implement in some other character in the future...Still a very rare look at some of my early rough sketches... minor changes occurred after this pic...

Sketch 5:
Last but not least, the...LAST...revision to Oshima. This one I was the most proud of...it was the first "real" piece of non-sketch work for Oshima. This is the pic where most of the elements of the current pin-up of her came from.

At the time, this was my first entry into hard shadow inked style, inspired by Pawfeather at the time.

I still love this one even today.

Congrats, Bombers! Smashing character design, splendidly adapted into the comic by Deeto and WL! Carryover inspiration includes the cotton-candy pink hair coloring; the metallic limbs, which end up with more open wiring than in your original; fleshy face, feet and torso, which you've giving a scintillating synthetic sheen here; and the Red Cross motif, hilariously insinuated into her bikini top (Deet's use of it is rather more low-key). The presence of a hypodermic and the lab clutter also nicely anticipate these elements in the finished art! I'm sure you'll be delighted with her appearance in the comic when you finally get to see it! You can be justly proud of this key contribution!

I'm glad most of those things made it... I believe Bandito was possibly looking for a more simplified way of drawing her, and I agree that the open wiring arms were indeed a nice touch. Maybe for all versions that I draw of her, I'll keep her accessories... 😉

Sigh... maybe someday I'll see her... it's quite humorously and surprisingly ironic that I helped in her creative process, but don't have access to the very thing I helped create her for! 😀

Please enjoy the copy of Bump in the Night II. I should have sent it to you way back a month ago when it first came out. But things have been so busy, and my little chick pea-sized brain has been so very distracted that I honestly just didn't think of it until I saw your frustrated post.

That kinda sucked...and I apologize. You totally deserved a free copy of the comic, and it should have been a damn prize in that contest all along. Sorry man.

I hope you end up liking the way Oshima turned out in the comic. I know you won that contest a LOOOONG time ago, and it took Lotus and I a LOOOONG time to finish BITN 2...but we wanted it to be as good as we could make it.

I love the ideas you contributed to Oshima's design, and am so happy you had artistic talent to SHOW me what you thought would be cool, instead of us just talking about it. I do ultimately want Oshima to have the leg and arm coverings you suggested...there are still a LOT of BITN issues left. And I want the Doc to have some special time to "work" on her upgrades. XD

I have a cool pin up I did of Oshima that I was hoping to release soon that also explains how she was designed as a collaboration between the Mad Doc and the Mad Bombers - and to remind people about the contest you won, and how you helped give input on her design. But Lotus hasn't been able to color much - so the pin up isn't ready yet.

Anyway - sorry again.

And you're not a little thing. Trust me, Lo Lo and I have been so frazzled we've been forgetting the BIG things. Speaking of which, where is Lotus? LMAO.

Oshima is going to be the Doc's right hand (er...foot) gal for the rest of the series. And so fans will be seeing a lot of her. Something else that's kind of a fun idea is that since her arms, legs, and neck are robotic. The Doc will occasionally detach one or all of those parts. Imagine if someone got a hold of one of Oshima's little naked feet and went someplace quiet with it to give her a little tickle hide and seek. It'd be pretty damn hard for her to track it down, cackling hysterically, and hopping on one foot. MuuuAAAA HAAA HAAA!

I'm sorry once again that I didn't use my brain sooner and think of sending you a copy (thank god for Jim...that's one of the many reason's he's the MAN!). But please know that your contributions to Oshima's design were are are greatly appreciated. Sorry I didn't make that clearer and I confused you.
