Hi,

Ok--I have been dealing with this problem for toooooooo long. I'm throwing this question out on here because i'm getting dizzy for all the circles i'm running around in.

I have a Dell Dimension 8110 Desktop. A while ago, I had to perform a complete restore. Long story short--I don't have sound coming from my speakers. The only sounds that I hear are the error sounds and the static noise when I turn my speakers on.

Now--I have been to my device manager. Nothing for my sound controls are illuminated and my volume control isn't there.

Sound card--or something that i'm missing???? I have a headache from all of this again. GRRR!

Lets start easy. There should be a speaker icon in your system tray. The widdle blue bar at the bottom of the screen. Double click on the speaker symbol and look at the resulting panel. If the Mute All box is checked the uncheck it and click ok. If only some of the options have the mute button click then unclick the mute and click ok. If there are no mute buttons checked the problem lies elsewhere.

Thanks Kurchie.

Problem is, I don't have a speaker icon. It went thattaway. Have no idea where it went--all I know is after I performed the restore, my speakers and all that went with it went.

I even bought ear buds to see if I could hear things. Didn't work.

Sigh...

You are welcome. 🙂

Goto the Control Panel (if you have windows XP it should be listed if you click the start button) , There should be a Sounds And Audio Devices icon in there. Double click on that. Then click Place Volume Icon icon in Taskbar check box. Then click ok. That should get you to a point where you can check the status of your sounds and see if stuff is muted. If thats not the case then I suspect you have competing drivers. Its has happened to me before on installing some video games.
