I had Windows Media Player and everytime I tried to use it, it gave me an error message and asked if I wanted to send an error report. I uninstalled it and got RealOne, and RealOne and my computer didn't get along at all, so I ditched RealOne. I got Windows Media Player (again) and instead of saying send an error message and report, I get an internal error with no option to send an error report. Back to the recycle bin went Windowa Media Player. I downloaded WinAmp and when I use WinAmp, it brings up the pic of the 3 that looks like a crop circle and freezes. 🙄 I would like an audio program that works, does anyone have any suggestions on what I could use, or why none of the other audio programs work for me?

RealOne (new RealPlayer) just flat doesn't work. I can't believe it was ever released.
Try the older RealPlayer 8. Download it here:

There's also a RealAudio 3 at that site, you might want to grab that one too, though I have no experience with it.
But RealPlayer 8 works like a champ for me, under Windows XP.

Hmmm...

An odd question for you, Lime. Are you running Norton Internet Security 2003 or a similar program? There have been a lot of cases where these are configured incorrectly or perhaps just downright buggy and generate the types of error messages you have...if so, try uninstalling that security program and seeing if the prob disappears, and obviously if it happens again when you reinstall. Just a thought... Q

Hmmm..part 2..lol

I must admit, I run an old version of the media player because I didn't care for the newer versions habit of acquiring files en masse as it saw fit from the rest of the hard drive. Perhaps it's just that simple, go back to a previous version until you find one you like/that works? Q

I had similar problems on a Windows ME machine which resulted from having a sound card being installed on a board with on-board sound.

Do you have any sound at all?

For you to have problems with all those programs, I'm thinking it's a problem with your computer, not the programs.

The first thing I'd try is downloading the latest drivers for you sound card.

You might also try running scandisk to see if there are any file problems on your computer. This may find that some important files have been corrupted. If all those audio players don't work there is probably something wrong on the computer itself. It could be a driver problem as well like guitman said.

Scandisk comes back clean...my mom is anal about those things and she runs on at least one every 2 weeks

I think it may be the drivers then if you installed some software lately it may have screwed up the audio drivers. I would go to the website of the company that made your sound card and see if they might be of some assitance. They would at least help you update your drivers.

Right click on the "My Computer" icon and select properties. Go to the hardware tab (Select Device Manager if you have XP) and look under the sound section and find your sound card among the devices listed. It should give you the maker and model of card you have.
