Awkward moments at the Drive-thru

We've all eaten at fast food every so often. Pull up to the menu, take order, pay, pick-up and leave. And every so often something strange happens that makes us think we probably should have just gone to the grocery store. Maybe it was a misplaced order or the person at the drive-thru was crazy. Well one of those moments happened to me...and I think i'm scared.

So I come up to this place called Yellow Basket. Nothing big, ordered a combo drive up etc...nothing unusual. So i'm waiting at the window, just payed and waiting on my meal. I'm just observing inside...the women obviously worked in the front while the men were in the back. Typical. I found it strange the the female employees were actually cuter than most fastfood workers...must be a trick.
So anyway I began to notice one of them staring at me...I don't know why. She began making gestures at me...and I was like, "What the hell?". Finally after getting my drink she and some other girl come up to the window. They said Hi and then told me, "Ummm...we wanted to tell you our friend (whom I'm not sure they were talking about) thinks you're cute"....

Let me put that into my perspective. I was never a popular kid growing up. In fact I was pretty much a loner. Depression was always my only companion and hell I have yet to make one friend. As for my looks...if round is one...aren't exactly smiled upon in society if not just openly mocked. If anyone remembers my personality type ISTP, these people do not like emotion of any kind, especially if it is in order to get emotion out of us.

So in my mind i'm thinking, "There's something wrong here". But I responded friendly and was all but small chit chat. After leaving the Drive-thru i'm just pissed cause I think it was some cruel joke. I know I ain't Atlas type dude...why should I be reminded of that? But in the end...it just has really freaked me out.

Well that's the most awkward thing that has ever happened to me at a drive-thru.

Anyone else want to chip in?

I think it's awkward when you can see the cooks in the back (if you want to call them cooks, I don't consider them cooks) staring at you as you order. You're doing your business with the cashier, then you look up and see these men staring at you from the kitchen like they have nothing better to do. It can be a long moment if business is slow that day. Sometimes, I've caught them watching me as I eat and then they mutter things in spanish. Usually, people get creeped out when people watch them eat or they get embarassed. Then your mind starts to wander and then you're like "don't tell me they put something in the food..."

Or, if this isn't the case, but they're watching or glancing over at you, it sort of makes you feel bad. It makes you wonder if they're wondering whether you're enjoying whatever they prepared for you. Its just fast food though, so the idea or feeling that theres some expectation for acknowledgement for fast food is awkward since then it might make you feel guilty if you don't wave to them and act pleased. Of course, I never do this, and it's never come up, but it is something I would imagine could be an awkward situation.

I've had that before. I was just about to pay for my cheeseburger when the girl came into the little booth and went "Hey Sexy"...I was like "Wtf?!!".

She looked 16, and I was twice her age paying with the hand that I have my wedding finger on. :S

There was something wrong with that image... >.>

I once puked on the side of my car while picking up my food at McDonalds.

It was the LAST time I'd ever drink and drive.

She just asked if I was cool, and my response was a Thumbs up, a hells yeah, and I grabbed the bag of food, and drove off... to the "waiting" area, where me and my passenger switched seats.

It's really fun being on the flipside!

Listening to people stumble through ordering food because they're either illiterate or too lazy/stupid to read the damn menu. They ask for things we don't have. You'd be surprised to know that people do ask for things like cheesecakes (whole) at a tex-mex burrito bar drive thru window.

Then, there's the insane levels of indecisiveness. They blunder through the order process, only to get up to the window and as you're handing them the food, say, "Is it too late to get you to make that chicken?"

Yes. Yes it is too late.

As for restaurant employees that do odd things, like the teenager that said "Hey, Sexy." Well, just imagine what it's like for those of us who have to work with them.

Fortunately we don't have Mexicans... And our cooks are cooks. The owners are idiots, but we have real cooks.

I think I know what you're talking about. Depression has gotten up in my own face too. The suckage factor for that particular state of mind is off the chart.

As for your body type, no one has the right to disrespect you for that. Fuck 'em if they can't take reality. No one I know looks like the people in TV commercials or billboard ads.

As for drive-through weirdness, the strangest thing that's happened to me of late is when the girl at the Wendy's pick-up window forgot to give me a straw. BO-RING! Where's the entertainment? I want my money's worth!
