Hi Folks,
I am back to school for the fall semester and this one is going to be good.

I signed up for 2 phys ed courses which will force me to exercise. I am taking Nautilus weight training in which I will be designing a personal workout routine. I am also taking step aerobics. I got into pretty good shape over the summer, hiking all over camp and I want to continue with a less sedintary lifestyle.

Watch out guys, Mimi may soon not be the only lee able to send her lers on snack flights. 😛

Continuing with my goal to work in the field of Psychology, I am taking a course called Psychology of Women. Last semester, I took Abnormal Psychology or Psychology of Men. LOL

I am doing my term research paper on Body Image in Adolescent Girls. It became apparent to me over the summer that this population is in trouble. The CITs(Counselors In Training) were ages 15-17 and had some of the worst self-esteem issues related to their body image, I have ever witnessed.

If anyone has stories about teenage girls with these issues, I would love to hear them and can be reached at [email protected]

Thanks,
Jen

I would be very interested in your thoughts about raising a confident daughter. Growing up since I was always fighting weight issues I did not grow up with a good body image. The area I grew up in really did not make it good for gals like me to think positively. It took me a long time to gain confidence in who I was. I don't want this for my daughter.

Happy to hear...

that you're doing so well, jen! I'm glad you enjoyed your summer.

As far as body image is concerned, I have a friend whose daughter, when she was just 8 years old, wanted her mom to give away her brand-new denim skirt. Why? She said it made her look fat! :sowrong:

My own body image was skewed at a young age, as well. I developed early (at 11), then I gained a lot of weight as a teenager; this made it less obvious (in my mind) that I was "busty," although I wasn't aware at the time that I was attempting to "disguise" myself that way.

I used to think that my life would be perfect if only I were beautiful like models in magazines. It's sad to think how many young girls may not realize how special, and beautiful, they are...and not because they can wear size 0 clothing.

You go, Jen!
Abnormal psychology indeed...
At forty two, I've come to the epiphany that my psychology might never be normal, and that the aforementioned word could never be applied to anyone in my family either.
Funny. My family more resembled the Bunkers and Stivics in "All In The Family" than anything else, and I wound up marrying into the friggin' "Donna Reed Show/Father Knows Best/The Brady Bunch". Try to imagine the first Meeting Of The Parents before the wedding...here's Archie sitting and interacting with a woman, my current mother-in-law, who really disapproves of anything with more spice than the word "Jeepers".
Abnormal psychology. You sure hit it on the head.
😱
