Tonight, I'm making my once a year pilgrimage, to Philadelphia, with a tour group, to see my Atlanta Braves play the Philadelphia Phillies. The weatherman definitely cooperated for me today, as it is beautiful. Clear skies, highs in the 80s, and should be in the 70s at game time.
Tonight's starting pitchers for both the Braves and Phillies, have about the highest earned run averages, of any starting pitchers I've ever seen in a game. For the Braves, their starter will be Lance Cormier, sporting an 0-2 record, and a bloated 15.26 ERA. For Philadelphia, their starting pitcher will be Adam Eaton, who, despite a 6.09 ERA, really lousy, is 9-7. Apparently, the Phillies must be scoring a lot of runs for Mr Eaton. While the stats show that this may be a very high scoring game, we also know that baseball is a weird game sometimes, and it could also end 2-1. Both the Braves and Phillies have been scoring a lot of runs lately, though, and both teams scored four runs in the first inning last night, off two really good pitchers, for both teams, Cole Hamels for Philly, and Chuck James for Atlanta.
I hope my team wins, although, privately, I would feel a hell of a lot more confident if one of Atlanta's aces, Tim Hudson, or John Smoltz, were to pitch, as opposed to a guy with a 15.26 ERA. Hopefully, the Braves can score many runs with their vaunted offense, and pull it out for me.
While I hope for a win, whatever happens, I am looking forward to the experience of going to the ballpark tonight.
