Hello friendly neighbors! This week's article centers around the strange and unpredicable ways some of our breathren have chosen to leave this world.....

A preacher who claimed he could walk on water like Jesus died at the first attempt. Hundreds watched in horror as he was swept away. His body was recovered by followers from the River Kwipu in the Congo.

Ukranian police found the emaciated corpses of two young girls, aged four and five, and their 52-year old grandmother who they believed starved themselves in a religious rite. The blackened bodies were discovered in an apartment on the outskirts of Kiev on November 8. The alarm was raised by the girls' mother after she crawled in shock to a neighbor's house for help.

Harold Saber, 80, a WWII veteren and retired pharmacist who told his family that he would drive himself to the funeral home, kept his word. On November 3, he was found dead in his car in the parking lot of a funeral chapel in Maplewood, NJ. "He was a very quiet man," said his widow, "he didn't like to bother anybody..."

A British tourist on a round-the-world trip died two days after being stung by the tiny irukandji jellyfish off the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia. Richard Jordan, 58, from Yorkshire, is the first known person to die from a sting by this jellyfish. Transparent and only 0.8 in. across, it has a sac about the size of a peanut and four 6 in. tentacles covered in stinging cells that discharge a neurotoxin when touched, causing extreme pain. There is no known antidote. Mr. Jordan suffered cerebral hemorrhage when the venom aggravated his heart condition. Two people have been hospitalized with heart problems since 1998 after coming in contact with the rare irukandji.

A study by David Phillips, a sociologist at the University of California at San Diego, has found that the number of cardiac deaths among Chinese and Japanese Americans is seven per cent higher on the fourth of each month, compared to the rest of Americans, an anomoly probably triggered by stress. "Four" sounds like the word for "death" in Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese; some Japanese and Chinese hospitals do not list a fourth floor or have "four" in any of the room numbers.

I am one preacher who has walked across a lake. Really, I have.

Of course it was winter and the water was frozen!

Don't think I'll ever use the expression: "I'm digging my own grave."

I've read that swimmers in Australia wear pantyhose. They are just thick enough to keep jellyfish from stinging.
