Well, we had a poll for Best Lightsaber duels...but let's show some love for the Force-less (mostly) warriors of the Star Wars Saga. Which space-combat battles did you like the best?
As far as pure action and presentation, the Battle of Endor shold rank near the top. Interesting to note that with all of the "updates" to the original trilogy Lucas did on the re-issues, not one frame of the epic final space battle was touched. Even by today's standards, the Battle of Endor is sight to behold on the screen.
That being said, my overall favorite was the Battle of Yavin in A New Hope. Everything worked perfectly. The music, in particular, added immensely to the desperation of the moment. Having the "countdown clock" going made it even more desperate. Small fleet of snub-fighters against a moon-sized battle station bearing down on your base within fifteen minutes...endless turbolaser towers, bristling surface guns...then Darth Vader and his crack team of fighter pilots gunning down the attackers one-by-one? Can't beat it. Also, the return of Han Solo at the last moment just made that battle, and the ensuing emotion. Maybe it's sentimentalism, as at the time I firt saw it, nothing like that had ever been seen before. For whatever reason, the originality, the tense musical score, the last-minute heroism...the Battle of Yavin still rocks!
