I've never posted in here, I don't think....but I just finished my third Bette Davis movie for the week, on a roll for some reason.....well, I mean, not from some reason....Bette Davis is one the top actresses of all time! She's my number two fave of all time (Mary Pickford is first, naturally). Anyways, you just want to turn to someone and say...wasn't that great?! So...why not you guys?
I started with her breakthrough role, "Of Human Bondage"..... the greatest movie ever made about being wrapped around somebody's finger....and a brutal performance from Miss Davis. Equal to Brando in "Streetcar", that great. Check this scene out. The guy she's been playing for a fool the whole movie is now helping her out when she's down on her luck.....and oof....she gives it to him, whoah. really bad.....poor guy.....every time I watch this scene, I get a knot in my stomach.

The whole movie is on You Tube, by the way. Hour and twenty minutes, you could do alot worse, believe me.
Then I just watched two movies she made in 1939....two completely different kinds of movies, two completely different characters....."Dark Victory" and "The Private Life of Elizabeth and Essex". Which I just finished watching. If you want to understand what's great about Bette Davis, watch those three movies in a row.
In "Dark Victory"....there's actually something that's probably the closest thing to a tickling Bette Davis ever got in a movie. I'm attaching that. I'm not saying this is a tickling scene.....but the doctor (who she's in love with) is examining her and when he gets to her knees...well...you'll see.....that's a clip attached to this post.
And then to play Queen Elizabeth? Glenda Jackson is the definitive Elizabeth.....but other than that, it's Bette Davis, oh my god. Forget those horrible Cate Blanchett movies, they don't come anywhere near the Glenda Jackson and Bette Davis versions. (I'm talking about the BBC miniseries with Glenda Jackson, not when she played her in the movie "Mary, Queen of Scots", which isn't that great, and this movie, not when she reprised the role in the 50s)
I wish the opening scene was on You Tube because it's a great opening scene, culminating in Bette Davis giving one of the hardest slaps in screen history to Errol Flynn's million-dollar face! That slap has been isolated on YouTube, but it's worthless without the buildup to it. Anyways, here's a great scene as she tries to figure out who's loyal and who's not.

Here's a beautiful tribute to Bette Davis from Meryl Streep, that really shows off her range:

But if you want to have a real treat for a half hour, like if you have some chore to do, you just want to hear something great.....here's Bette Davis doing a Q & A in 1969, at a San Francisco University, they were having a retrospective of her work. She is h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s.

And like I said, a little giggling and "it always makes me laugh", attached below.....😉
