Black Friday

Well it seems that once again the worst holiday of the year is upon us and that is black friday. How do we celebrate it? Not by hanigng with loved ones and tickling our significanto thers but by getting up very early and attacking the poor jabronis that work retail.

The hollywood brother knows there are many people here who have 12 months to by christmas gifts but wait to black friday so they can be at stores by six in the morning. The problem with this is that it puts people in bad moods because they have to wait hours to have the opportunity to buy something that is not a must have item outside of there own minds.

So when you finally make it up to the counter and are pissed off because you could not get whatever the must have item is, people please be like the hollywood brother and not take it out on the poor slobs that are stuck working

All the hollywood brother is saying is to have a little patience and not take out a whole years frustration on some clerk who is just trying to earm a living.

i was gonna sleep in and not join the crazy crowd until someone filled me in that radio shack had a deal for a personal mp3 player for just $40. now i'm forced to join the drove of zombified shoppers on the blackest of fridays.

Hungarian, Black Friday is definitely real. It's called "black" because that is the day that most retailers break even financially (i.e., they are "in the black.")

Sadly I slept late and didn't get to do anything this morning. And then I have no transportation as George (who's store is located in a mall) was working til well after 10pm. He did farkin great today though. *imagines self rolling around naked in piles of money*

I just worked 21 goddamn hours, and I have to work again opening the store in 3 hours. I hate the hell out of you consumers.

the hollywood brother works retail as well and you do develop a hard grudge against customers very quickly. Also what i never got is items go on sale all year long but yet jabronis wait to the last minute to buy these items and then get pissed if it runs out because they were too lazy to buy throughout the whole year

That's why MDJ and I start at the end of Oct/Early Nov. (1) the crowds are awful (2) the customers behave three rungs below their actual position on the food chain. In fact, I go out of my way to be nice to store clerks and tip restaurant servers near shopping center higher this time of year, for we see what they have to put up with.

Like Nessonite mentioned, the roots of the term come from the financial boon the day brings upon the stores. Incidentally, the people who see the profits from this aren't the people who have to deal with angry mobs. Kinda makes the other connotation of "Black Friday" seem a lot more fair, even if not accurate.

On the other hand, if you happen to work a commision based jobs, the extra hassle at least has a sweet little reward tied in...my friend who works at Radio Shack makes more money between November 25 and January first than he does from January second to June first.

I drove by a Circuit City at 5:45 AM on Friday and the parking lot was full plus the parking lot to the vacant Sam's Club building next door to it was half full. The Best Buy parking lot that I drove past looked like a used car lot. I NEVER will understand why people are willing to stand in huge lines and push and shove to get into stores just to get a bargain price on something.
Note to PsiRedEye22: Instead of being mad at the consumers you should be mad at the management of the store you work for but I bet nobody was holding a gun to your head to force you to work 21 straight hours either. Was the Store Manager there to open the store and did they stay and work for 21 hours in a row? I bet not and I bet they didn't come in after only three hours off to reopen the store either.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. It traditionally starts the beginning of the Christmas shopping season and is when bigger stores open at dawn to huge crowds of people and offer special sales and givaways and stuff.
