Blatant Honesty: Good? Bad? Funny?

What do you think about it? I think that it is not only funny as hell, but it's healthy. Think about it, if your buddy asks you, "what do you think of my picture?" And you know in the back of yer' mind the pic sucks, what better way to answer than to just say, "It's one of the worst pictures I have ever seen in my life, and if you were not my friend I would assualt you for showing it to me." ....Ok, that was an extreme example, but you get the general idea. Anyhow, why is blatant honesty considered to be "rude"? God knows that people these days need to be a little more honest.

Here two cases where blatant honesty will do great harm:

One
Alice: Does this dress make me look fat?

Bob: It sure does! Your fat ass is prominently displayed in that dress.

Alice: (unprintable in a polite forum, indicating that their engagement is canceled, and she wants him to move out immediately)

Two
Joe: Is my penis too small?

Kathy: Much too small! I can barely feel it in me. I wouldn't be satisfied ever if you weren't willing to use your tongue.

Joe: (unprintable in a polite forum; possibly violent)

I still think it depends how its done. When said right, the blatant can be quite funny... more so when its between friends that know your arn't actually being aggressive towards them.

I'd prefer if people were blatantly honest with me. In my opinion, such honesty is considered by many to be "rude" because many people are FAR too easily offended.

Its good if its the truth, but I know some people who would use it jsut specifically to be mean to others, and, yeah, it sucks, but what can you do about it?

Blatant honesty has never done me one iota of good with individuals who only want to hear what they want to hear (you listening, Mom and Dad?), or just can't handle the truth at all (like my best friend). It's only caused pain...
I am only blatantly honest with other people who are blatantly honest...
