A few things I picked up about the upcoming Star Wars: Episode III

The following rumours were either affirmed or debunked by Rick McCallum (Producer) in an interview with Star Wars Insider.

Rumor: Chewbacca delivers the Skywalker twins to Obi-Wan
RM: "Can't comment"

Rumor: By the end of Ep III, Yoda ends up on Dagobah
RM: "A pretty close rumor. We'll see"

Rumor: Admiral Ozzel and/or (actor) Michael Sheard will appear in the film
RM: "Too early to tell"

Rumor: Anakin loses more body parts
RM: "Absolutely"

Rumor: The Millenium Falcon will appear in the film
RM: "Totally untrue"

Rumor: Darth Sidious will wield a lightsaber
RM: "Maybe. If you're very good..."

Other things gleaned from the interview and notes on casting.
****************************************************

Actress Genevieve O'Reilly has been cast to play a young Mon Mothma.

In the tradition of The Empire Strikes Back, the epic battle (this time in space) will occur at the start of the film.

McCallum has promised some "glorious deaths" of main characters..."None of these wimpy fights with droids"

He has also confirmed that there will be "someone serious" as a main villian to go along with Darths Sidious and Tyranus.

That's all I got for now. Why can't these films be made quicker?!?!?!?

😀

I WANT TO SEE SOME SERIOUS LIGHT SABER DUELS. none of this goofy battle robots crap. I dont like who they cast for the older anakin skywalker. Hes boring!!

Only if you believe Dick Van Dyke. 🙄

I have heard an interview with George Almighty who said that Chewbacca would be in this one. No mention of Han Solo (who would probably only be about 10 by the end of it anyway) or the Falcon though.

By the way AphxA, who HAS been cast as the older Anakin Skywalker? I heard that Hayden Christiansen was playing the part again.

yeah thats the problem big jim. They should of never cast that kid in the first place. Hes plays such a dull jedi knight. This is who becomes darth vader!!im sorry i dont mean to complain, but i think george lucas has lost his touch.🙁

I like who they cast in episode one. That was a cool cast.

The only thing i didnt like about episode two was that guy who is anakin skywalker.

I mean im going to see the third episode regardless.

Ah, now I'm with you. I thought you were talking about Episode 3, which made me think someone had replaced Christiansen. Oddly enough, I thought one of the things he did particularly well, was showing the darker side of who he was. I mean Anakin was only 19 or 20 years old in AOTC, so obviously there's an awful lot of growth and change to take place before he becomes the Dark Lord of the Sith. His angst, anger and agression comes across very well for something that is otherwise quite wooden. I think it would have been better if the scene of him destroying the Sand People's camp had been longer. We only saw him slot three of them. Seeing ten or a dozen ruthlessly slaughtered would probably have been more convincing.

The entire scene was actually shot once, but Lucas felt it was too brutally violent for the rest of the film. In fact, Christinsen's performance of unbridled rage was one of the things George thought might be too scary for younger viewers. It didn't show up in the DVD (as I was praying it would), as the scene was never finished. The same thing kept the scene with Dooku wielding two lightsabers against Yoda out of the DVD. Sometimes they try something, shoot it quick and it just doesn't work. The scenes that made the DVD were actual finished scenes that were cut for either time constraint or story-flow reasons.

christianson was lousy.

a big disappointment! my teenage daughters didn't even like him!
the guy was boring to watch. not the character, but the actor, was the worst in the cast.

i read in sci-fi digest that the big killing sceen in the sand people camp was going to be in the extended release version, with a stronger rating.

I've taken to referring to Rick McCallum as "The Mouth of Sauron". (This would, of course, make Lucas himself the Dark Lord, but that's another rant...) I remain amazed at his ability to fill pages in interviews without really saying anything about the upcoming films.

As for the other villain(s), I recall seeing it written somewhere that Ep. III would feature two expanded universe villains created for the comics and animated series, notably:

Asaaj Ventress, a female Dark Jedi based on an unused sketch of a "Sith Witch" for previous Eps., she's pale, bald, and wears a long tight dark leather dress. Trained by Count Dooku as his protege, she wields a pair of his style of curved-hilt lightsabers. Her deal is that her planet was decimated in a conflict while the Jedi stuck to a policy of neutrality and non-intervention, so she blames them all for her family's deaths. She is often paired with:

Durge, a mysterious alien bounty hunter who replaces Jango Fett as Dooku's chief muscle. Beneath his skull-faced armor, he appears to be gelatinous or otherwise lacking any centralized nervous system, as I've seen him take a blaster bolt through the eye socket and only get annoyed. His backstory is still open to conjecture, but the only thing we know for certain is that he's been in suspended animation for about a thousand years. I heard rumors that he came out of hibernation to kill Jango Fett as part of his vendetta against the Mandalorians (He's the last of his kind and wants to render his people's exterminators equally extinct), and joined up with the Separatists for the opportunity to murder Jango's clones by the thousands, but I don't know how accurate any of that is.

I've also heard that we can expect to see some ARC Troopers (Clone soldiers that retain more of Jango's original tough-guy personality and are trained as Advance Recon Commandoes) among the clones during the big battle sequences.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Anakin's customized starfighter, which appears to take the standard Jedi-issue Kuat Systems Engineering Delta-7 Aethersprite hull and mounts two large turbine engines on the leading edge of the wings, on either side of the nose in a layout similar to his old podracer, which I imagine serves to integrate the hyperdive from the ring module Obi-wan's ship had to use. It also moves the R2 unit from the port wing to a much more balanced position on the centerline just before the cockpit, which I find more esthetically pleasing.

Regarding the female sith, play the pod race in Ep 1 on slow-motion, and you will see a very small glimpse of her as the pods take a corner after exiting a canion. she's not entirely bald, either: She has dark red hair done up in a long, tight pony-tail.

And she's tough as nails, too.

I know who you're referring to, Admiral, but that's Aurra Sing, another bounty hunter who's had bigger things to do in the comics and video games. Aurra was taken from her mother, a spice-addict of unknown species living in the streets of Nar Shaddaa, when she was only an infant and raised by the Jedi. She was padawan to a Jedi Master known only as the Dark Woman (a member of an unorthodox Jedi tradition who believes that a Jedi should have no possessions, not even a name), but she abandoned her training after some disastrous incident, the nature of which I have yet to discover. She fell in with the Anzati, a race of "Force vampires" if you will, who taught her their Jedi-fighting techniques. Aurra then became a bounty hunter to support herself, but she gladly hunts Jedi for free, keeping their lightsabers as trophies. She appears repeatedly in the Star Wars comics from Dark Horse. Ventress, however, has so far appeared in the pages of Star Wars: Republic and Star Wars: Jedi from Dark Horse as well as in the upcoming Clone Wars animated series soon to play on Cartoon Network.

While the video games are not as reliable a source of canon info, there is evidence that Aurra Sing survived the Clone Wars and was alive at least until just before Return of Jedi, based on her participation in Jabba the Hutt's illegal vehicle-fighting tournament in Star Wars: Demolition. Her further fate is unknown, but my brother and I are presuming her survival into the New Republic era for the homegrown Star Wars comics we plan to do, as we think a Kyle Katarn/Aurra Sing throwdown would rock.
