Now, obviously this is a choice that I have to make myself, but i thought you guys might be able to pitch in a little.

Eventually I will be going to college. I don't care if I have to save up the money to pay off my tuition, I will be going to college. The only problem is, I cannot for the life of me decide what I want to do. I've bounced this problem off of a few individuals, and they've helped, but I haven't come to a solid conclusion yet.

Anyways, I'm interested in several things;

Biology
Computer Science
Programming
Astronomy

These are the ones that I've narrowed everything down to. Now, my biggest problem with all of these is that I am absolutely abysmal at mathematics. You guys just have no idea. Anyways, if you guys have any suggestions, or can maybe describe in better detail what each subject would entail, feel free to post.

Just thought I'd bounce the idea off of you guys. Take it easy.

Hey, Mash16. Glad you are so determined to go to college. Since I am just finishing up my masters in ICT which is, in my country, closely related to programming and computer science (I did have programming and CS courses), I'll try to offer whatever help I can about those two subjects. Mind you, Croatian and American job markets are different, as are our colleges, so I'm not sure how much my opinion will be worth.

First off, it all depends on what your likes and dislikes are. Whatever you take, it has to be something that you can see yourself doing for 10 hours a day and not get sick of it. Especially with programming - if you plan on taking that course, be prepared to code it out.

If you are abysmal at maths, though, I wouldn't recommend either Comp. Science or Programming. Both follow a lot of logical principles found in maths - especially theoretical maths. Coming from a branch that specializes in signal processing (thus, Fourier's analysis, Z-transform, cepstrum, etc. are common things), I can say that I had to use A LOT of maths and solve a lot of equations. A lot of the subjects were about mathematical analysis.

Hope this helped you out a bit. If you need any more info, feel free to message me.

Cheers!

I would like to add a little bit of an opinion concerning math. Don't give up on it so quickly. I hated math in high school, not so much because I didn't have an aptitude for it, but because my teacher was a total bitch. Yes, I say that with full honesty. I was always paired up with her all through high school. So I never really pushed myself. However, when I got to college I found that I really enjoyed math especially math theory and the abstract stuff. Obviously, I found this out because I had different teachers. This may or may not apply to you, but I offer it because you are asking for opinions.

Personally, I went the history route. I can tell you that as much as I love it getting a job with it sucks. If you go any science or computer tech route, you will need some level of math. So it is best to figure out whether you are honestly good at it or not. You will undoubtedly have to take some math courses as you fulfill your core requirements.

Best of luck to you.
