George W Bush,s invitation to an annual gala fundraiser for the Jewish charity Keren Hayessod{United Israel Appeal} has been withdrawn. The charity,s board took the decision to cancel Thursday night, based on concern about the number of public calls to protest his visit, including demands that Bush, former U.S. president, be arrested for torture and war crimes. Groups on the left and right of the political spectrum were calling for Switzerland to open an investigation and possibly arrest Bush in Geneva, as was the International Organization Against Torture. The UN Swiss security cell noted that initial numbers of demonstraters to be at 1000{most likely to increase} and the event organizers feared that small groups would take advantage of Bush,s visit to create trouble that could spill over into violence. This was on the world news but I didn,t see it on CNN although it may have been. Does anyone have a comment or do we shy away from this? Is this a non-issue?

No comment on the Bush part...but Cheney yea i can see why they'd wish to try him on war crimes...he always gave me the creeps...

Im the only one who thinks its sick that the one whose responsible for the warcrimes aint getting prosecuted but the one who tell the world about them gets 300 years in prison?

The "World Court", officially known as the International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. It,s seat is at the Peace Palace in the Hague, Netherlands. US Secretary of State at the time Condoleeza Rice informed UN Secretary Kofi Annan in a two paragraph letter that the US hereby withdraws from the protocol. So while still remaing a signer to the Vienna Convention, the US now refuses to submit to international law to inforce it. Bush fervently pro death penalty, presided over 152 executions in his five years as governor of Texas. He reportedly spent only minutes reviewing the abbreviated notes on prisoners appeals provided him by his staff before he sent them to their deaths. He has maintained that he never sent an innocent man or woman to the execution chamber, ignoring numerous reports such as a 2000 study by the Texas Defender Service which described the death penalty operation in Texas 'as a thoroughly flawed system' marred by racial bias, incompetent counsel and misconduct committed by police officers and proscecuters. Of course this was previous to him becoming president.

IMO, "international law" is a contradiction in terms. But even if you really wanted to arrest Bush, when he allegedly committed those crimes, he was the leader of a sovereign nation, and so, would have diplomatic immunity, so to attempt to arrest him in another country would be absolutely futile.

But yeah, also kind of a non-issue with me. He's not in power anymore, and he's pretty much contained, to liken him to a threat.

I think so as well I believe that it,s already become a non-issue, nobody is talking about it, the news networks gave it a blurb yesterday but nothing since, Egypt being everyones focus. I suppose that some may protest but they would possibly get arrested for their efforts. I don,t think that any country in the world would take the chance of having him arrested on their soil. Most powerful countries and by powerful I mean a powerful military or natural resource powerful make there own rules and people are intimidated, besides governments are at the beck and call of corporations unless they are dictatorships.

Good. Glad it's been withdrawn. That man caused more trouble in the world than he's worth! Now if God would just give him a minor stabbing pain at the end of every minute for every soldier that lost their lives in Iraq and every innocent civilian who died in New Orleans during Katrina.

Hear, hear!

I swear to god if Palin gets elected I'm GOING TO SOME TROPICAL ISLAND NATION where american money is worth more than it is in the USA itself AND NEVER COMING BACK!

lol Funny thing is, I hope Palin runs in 2012. Her defeat would be so resounding by a re-elected Obama that it would deflate her spirit for running again.
