Right about the time the economy gets back in shape, it won't matter. People will be too poor from paying the Content Cartels every penny they have in "damages".

Since ya know... one track off of a $15 album is SO worth 1.7 million dollars.

I say we sue the RIAA and MPAA for their right to exist. We The People ask for punative damages in the hundreds of trillions of dollars.

We'll form our own police force and jail the leaders of these companies. Keep them incarcerated, without human contact for decades until they forget their own names.

And it still wouldn't be enough punishment for the damage they've done to Liberty.

Contact your lawmakers now. Make it known that We The People demand an end to this malarky. Tell them that continued support of Content Cartel initiatives will result in recall... THEN FOLLOW THROUGH ON THAT THREAT.

In my opinion, every person who voted for this bill is a traitor to the nation and should be treated as such.
 
I suppose it's to go along with the rule allowing the TSA to confiscate your laptop indefinitely at the airport and let the IRS, CIA, NSA, etc. root through its data.

What pisses me off most of all is the attitude of too many of my fellow Americans, who say that either this kind of bullshit is "for our own good", or they believe we simply "can't fight city hall".

But seriously, how about bombarding the RIAA and MPAA with mails, e- and otherwise, which say "What makes you think your members' crap music and movies are worth having, let alone "pirating"?

And as for "intellectual property", the record labels are the biggest theives of the lot, but you already know that.

Dear God, I hope this is a bad joke.... Enforcement would be a big pain in the ass for one. Not to mention all the people who would get nailed incorrectly. How would they determine a dubious source from the mp3 files on the computer? It's just plain crazy.
 
Any particular reason Bush is so targeted? He's just the last step. This would have had to go thru the Democrat controlled House and the Democrat controlled Senate both before it got him. He's just the last cog. So, this had to be at least a little bi-partisan. the Dems coulda passed it alone, but likey Republicans voted for it too. If it was Republican in origin, Democrats had to vote for it as theyre the majority, and it couldn't pass if only the minority voted on it.

Did Bush do a bad thing? Yup, seems that way. But there's dozens (assuming more than a couple of these yo-yos showed up for work), maybe hundreds of other people ahead of the President. This is why he's the Chief Executive, and the House and Senate are the Lawmakers. Somebody had to write this folks, and then add on God-knows how much in pork.

They're all to blame for this. And everything else. Not much happens on one guy's orders. Well, until they gave the chairman of the Fed such ghastly powers of making things happen on his whim.

They all suck. Just some worse than others.

We're just screwed. Whoever wins, whoever stays, whoever goes, doesn't matter. Get ready, kids, things are gonna start getting bad. We're fast tracking towards a socialist government we can't control.

I'll be glad when we get to November 5th. I'm gonna cuss and cry that day. Just looking forward to knowing how hard and if I'll be mad enough to invent new swear words.

It's the combined sound of Bush/Cheney's last supporters flushing their republican voter registration cards down the shit hole.

Edit: Since the Democratic Congress is equally to blame for this latest catastrophe (among others Bush is blamed for as well), I think I'll be voting independent come election time.

Question:

How exactly will they find said "dubious" MP3? If you've got a song with DRM and it can be played, then it's not illegal. If it isn't infected with DRM, they could only find it through illegal means. Unless you just happen to be a terrorist that got caught and has a few illegally downloaded Metallica songs - then you're in serious trouble. 😉

Well, actually, Croatia was communist until 18 years ago, and I can tell you such a law would never be passed in communism, since those songs would probably be labeled as 'public property'. Laws like these are enforced by big companies: capitalists.
 
This is a very worrysome development... While I myself don't have any music, games or software "from dubious origin", I wonder where this will ultimately lead to. What will be their next step?
Are they going to sue a musician who creates a song that sounds too similar to an existing one? What about an artist who creates a piece of fanart or so of a copyrighted comic book or movie character?

Just when I thought that through the internet the world was becoming a more open place to share ideas and inspiration, something like this happens. Is there truly no limit to the greed of some people?

We might indeed be looking at a very grim future...
 
You're all making a big deal over nothing. Don't you have to do something incredibly stupid to be monitored by the US government in the first place? As far as I know, that is the only way for them to find things on your computer. You talk as if the billions of people who aren't going to stop downloading are in serious trouble. That would be akin to arresting everyone in the United States who has ever smoked marijuana. LOL

Nope. You don't. Can be done at will. And the computing techniology is out there capable of doing it remotely on it's own. And this isn't conspiracy stuff, computers have really reached those kinds of processing abilities. It's just technology.

Do they? I dunno. But London has what, 40,000 cctv cameras operating? And those is run largely by people. Takes less manpower to moniter internet activity. Just gotta have the processor power.

But these things are going to have tracking programs in them. Basically, they'll alert people and leave a list of IP adresses so you can see if they've been passed along.

Stratovarius claims to have something similar on their cd's.

Duke, it's more a reference to the political side more than the economic. Yeah, they would have been public, but it's the issue of government control she was speaking of. Stalinist Russia kinda stuff. In Europe you'd probably tend to call it facism. Tho, the difference between communism and facism is easily blurred. Hitler was a socialist facist. Stalin was a communist. Both had absolute rule and control. The only difference is in the economic part. Socialism allows rich people, but still rules over the business if they wish. They just need more legal pretext.

People in theis country are working hard towards socialism econmically. And it's not far from there to communism. Just curious which side we land closer to when it's done here. We've already lost control of our politicians. So...facism by committee?
