Instead of Ross's discovery causing him to feel more comfortable about going after George, when Ross found out how much MIA was really worth, and Ross letting his top legal counsel handle it, Ross became.. distracted.
Ross was .. bored when he was in the office, and did not seem to want to leave town to go to OKC.
Finally, the last thing that Ross wanted to happen, did, when, on a Friday night, Ross got a "sharp" call on his cell phone from none other than the last person besides Kayley whom Ross wanted to antagonize, Fritz.
"Sir, unless you have a health reason for not coming, such as a severe migraine, seizure, or a letter from your Doctor stating to us that you cannot travel, you still do own one third of this energy company. Mister Steve and I have been very understanding about your unusually long absence. Yet, if this is all because you are distracted by the MIA bullshit that you supposedly hired top lawyers to handle, then we do not accept that, and we demand that you see us in person and have your hide here by no later than Monday on your usual flight, and be prepared to stay the whole week. Do you understand what I am saying!?" Fritz said sharply.
"Yes, I understand, Mister P, sir. I guarantee that I will be there on my usual flight on Monday, ready to work on and discuss whatever you and Mister Steve want me to" Ross said quietly.
"Good! I'm glad that we understand each other! Have a nice weekend" Fritz said, sarcastically.
Ross clicked off Mister P and got a sick look on his face.
Kayley gave a long sigh. "Based upon the look on your face, that you said not a word, and that you look like your world came to an end, I know exactly who that was. Okay, what did Mister P say?" Kayley asked quietly but pointedly.
Ross sighed. "That unless I am sick and can prove it, I am to be in OKC by Monday on my usual flight, ready to work He told me not to give him BS about being distracted by MIA, and to just do my usual work with him. I have to go Monday as usual, and I'm not sure when I will be back" Ross said.
"I understand. I'm sorry that Mister P aired you out, but Ross, you have no one to blame but yourself. The three of you worked so hard to build RFS. Now you have to move forward. You could not wait to get out of here before you found out about MIA. Well, if it helps you, just pretend that MIA does not exist. You did not even know about it until a very short time ago anyway. Just pretend you are going off to do your regular work in OKC, and that you cant wait to get away from the office and what you have always called "The circus, and Timothy." Let;'s have a quiet weekend, go, and have a good time and productive trip. " Kayley said.
Ross and Kayley had a quiet weekend. Early Monday morning, Ross kissed Kayley goodbye, and went on his usual JFK to DFW to OKC plane. He arrived at noon, went to the office, and was greeted calmly by Fritz.
"Ross, good to see you as always. I'm sorry if I was a bit of an asshole the other day. You know that in addition to being one of my favorite business partners, you are also one of my best friends, just like Mister Steve here. I had to say that to you, to get you down here to stop obsessing about MIA. You have good lawyers to handle it. Whether it is worth fifteen mil, one hundred mil, or more, just do what you do best, let the lawyers handle it, and do what you always say is your favorite work with us. We have three shows scheduled, today, tomorrow, and Wednesday, so you will be out of here Wednesday night just like usual. All is like usual. There is a real estate possibility, but with the focus having to be this energy deal, we will put that on hold and discuss it at dinner one night, then send you the papers. For now, let's have a tea, and get to the fields, and go make some money" Fritz said.
"Yes sir" Ross said, saluting Fritz.
Ross, Fritz and Steve went to the field, where they were met by 125 potential investors. After the foreman explained, and the investors got a tour of the fields and the financial commitment required, fifty took papers and signed up. A very good first day showing.
On the way back to OKC for dinner, Fritz said. "If we do well tomorrow, do you want to go home tomorrow night?"
"No, sir, actually, if its okay with you, let's do the third show. I will stay until Wednesday night regardless whether we sign up five people tomorrow or fifty. We both know that if or when I go back to New York, I will drag my feet in the office and spend time obsessing about MIA and George. I tried to assign myself a project to do, and did not do diddlysquat in almost a week. At least here, I have to work on this, as we must always try to sign new people, and I have a commitment as a partner to this company, to you and Steve, and to the investors as a sales person. I hope we sign up sixty people a day, but whether or not we do, I stay the whole trip" Ross said.
Fritz grinned,. "As you wish, Sir Ross"
After dinner, Ross went back to the hotel, and called Kayley.
"Fritz apologized, and said he did not mean what he said. I know he was just trying to get me down here to focus on my work with RFS energy and so I wont sit at RossShell and obsess about George and MIA. I am going to stay the full three days, no shortening trips, or anything else. Shows tomorrow and Wednesday, out of here Wednesday night, and home early Thursday. Then, I will have done my work, and we will see what happens next" Ross said confidently.
"Good man,. just like the usual Ross. Take care, and have fun,. I love you" Kayley said.
"I love you too, teacher" Ross said.
The next day, after breakfast, Ross, Fritz and Steve went back to the fields, and met with 150 investors. This time, it was not as good, but not bad, as forty signed up.
That night at dinner, the men talked.
"Not great, but not terrible. One more tomorrow, and then home for you, and just do what you have to" Fritz said.
The next morning, early, the men met with 200 potential investors, and seventy five signed.
All in all, it was a very productive trip, and a needed one, after Ross had dragged his feet to get there.
On the way to the airport, Fritz said.
"Very good trip, Unless you are sick, have something special that you personally must do at RossShell, or have to give a court deposition on you know what that we do not talk about, I strongly request your presence here in thirty days, but ideally three weeks. That means, to be clear, get your ASS here then, okay?! This shows you that you can do very well with what you say is your favorite thing to work on. Go back home, relax for a day, then figure out what to do. I know you can" Fritz said, bumping fists with Ross in commiseration as they said goodbye.
Ross got on a 6 pm flight to Dallas and JFK. He landed in Dallas at 645, took off from there at 730, and landed in JFK just before midnight, arriving home at 1230.
When Ross entered the bedroom, Kayley was half sleeping.
"Get undressed, and dont you dare go near the machine in your den. Every time you do you get bad news. Just sleep as much as you can, and deal with it all in the morning" Kayley said.
Ross kissed Kayley lightly. "Yes, teacher"
Ross undressed, got into bed, slept for about five hours, and then did go in to check his messages around 530 am. Kayley was again half up, ready to get up to go to work.
This time, there was a message from Gerald Silver, the "Shark" lawyer whom Ross had hired to deal with George.
"Ross, it's Gerry Silver. I know that you are out of town. I'm not promising anything, but this might not be the long drawn out thing that we thought it would. It turns out that George himself, and thus certain things he did at MIA are having problems,. The people whom he is having problems with, are trying to put stop payments on his income sources. I'm not one hundred percent sure, and I have to look into it further, but, there could be a way to work a deal with him to pay off his obligations, in return for a controlling interest in MIA, where all he is , would be a silent partner with no say. Then, you could hire your own man to run MIA, or run it partially yourself. I know you will not give up now that you know MIA is worth one hundred or more million, but this might not be such a long process. Please call me when you get this" Gerry Silver said.
Ross clicked off the machine, and sauntered back to bed.
"Okay, what happened in the den?" Kayley said.
"Gerry Silver, the lawyer on MIA called. He wants me to call him later, and says there may be a way to resolve this. It could be a false alarm, so I am going to go back to bed, and saunter into RossShell about noon, call him, and will be home by 630 at latest, okay? I promise I am not going to drive myself crazy" Ross said.
Kayley kissed Ross. "Okay, I hope that Gerry Silver can help you with MIA. I cant tell you not to go into the office even if you just got back from OKC. It is better than sitting here and obsessing. You just had a good trip to OKC,. focus on that, and find out just what Gerry Silver has to say. In the meantime, please stay calm" Kayley said.
"I will teacher" Ross said.
Ross had a very productive OKC trip, and had maybe gotten good news about MIA.
Would the news turn out to be as good as Gerry Silver thought, or was it a false alarm, and would MIA and George still turn out to be a long drawn out mess for Ross?"
Those things remained to be seen.
Ross was .. bored when he was in the office, and did not seem to want to leave town to go to OKC.
