I've been playing this thing (sort of an ancient Egyptian version of Populous) and am stuck on only the third level. I just can't get anywhere. My Ordinary Cottages won't evolve into Modest Homesteads. The map says to beautify my city, but I've used he cash cheat to get about 45,000 deben and beautified everything in sight to the point of garishness! The houses themselves say they won't evolve because there isn't enough entertainment nearby. I've tried building jugglers booths all over the place but it does no good, it says there isn't enough variety. Trouble is jugglers are the only sort available for me to build and nothing else will become available, no matter how long I wait.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Jim,

It sounds like you just started and are going through the almost tutorial style beginning.. where they give you a little bit more that you can use as you go.. I just dug out Pharoah and ran through the first 3 parts..

If we are in the same section, you are planting fig farms on the edge of the nile. Get it to the point where you get a really good inundation (easiest by holding a festival for Osiris) and lots of food. Read the instructions to figure all that out.. you need workfarms to farm the nile, granery's to hold your harvest, etc.

After everyone is well fed, they will learn how to do claypits and make pottery.

And at the same time that you get that ability, you will get all the beautification stuff. The best is plaza (in the beautification menu). If your people are happy, the road around your homes will start looking almost bricked.. they do it themselves to show they are pleased with the area... Use the plaza on the bricked areas. Once they have water, food, pottery, religion and beauty, they should upgrade.

Note.. I just got them to upgrade to homestead without anything other than jugglers for entertainment, and plaza's for beautification.. It does take practice and patience.. I played Pharoah for quite awhile before I got all that down, especially since I am totally opposed to cheats.. LOL..

I've been playing Zeus lately.. Similar but I get to invade the guys who piss me off rather than just fight them off when they attack me..

Yep. the fig-farm level is the one I'm on and it is in the "tutorial" style beginning.

I've been playing Caesar III and Pharaoh for a while now. I've got Zeus on order as soon as it comes back into stock as www.amazon.co.uk .

Well I've beautified everything in site mate. Plazas on roads, gardens on cleared green land and statues in every available space. The bastards are still complaining abut lack of entertainment despite 5 booths being built to satisfy them. 😕 (All booths fully stocked with performers from 2 juggling schools.) I just can't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Still not working. :cry1: I've tried beauifying every square of bricked road with plaza, placed statues in every spot, gardens in all the spots left and all my Ordinary Cottages have a supply of figs and pottery. My jugglers have 100% coverage of the city, as do my doctors and apothecaries. There is nothing more I can do. My graneries are rammed with bloody figs all the year round an Osiris wants my babies so much that every flood is positively Biblical in proportions.

WHY WON'T THOSE BASTARD COTTAGES EVOLVE INTO HOMESTEADS?!?!?!?!?!!????😡 😡 😡
