Can I trust the UK's GPs with my eczema?

Just wanted to share some of my anxiety here. I've suffered from severe eczema since birth. Severe as in mounting redness, unbearable itching, flaky dry skin and bloody scars and wounds practically all over. These are rare extreme cases, but enough to keep you constantly on your guard.
I was lucky enough to inherit the damn eczema from my father, who went through the same misery for 15+ years until it disappeared in his 30s. My allergies are mostly food-related, which is the primary cause for my dry, itchy, flaky skin. Now I'm keeping to a strict diet, avoiding all the hazardous foods on my list like the plague. I do get mild rashes every now and then, but those are peanuts compared to what I've encountered these last few days.
This is one of the worst flare-ups I've ever endured. Red all over, intolerable itching, lymph running in certain areas and hundreds of spots and wounds, some as big as bullet holes. And to top it all off, it hurts as hell to as much as move. I can pretty much expect a week of sleepless nights.
The problem is I'm running low in my supply of creams, ointments and pills. I've moved to the UK last year, but haven't got a GP yet. I'm not too confident in the NHS after hearing countless stories of the doctors' ignorance and irresponsibility in the most avoidable cases. And I would need a prescription for a few ointments. I don't think a GP would tell me anything new regarding my eczema, since I've heard a lot from my long-time allergologist back in my homeland to know more than enough about my case. So can I trust the doctors here?

Sure, you'll be fine. Doctors over here are fine for the most part. I've had no complaints when I've needed to go for treatment. Just explain what you need doing and your past and they should be able to give you the right ointments and the like. My brother had eczema and he got good help.

A large part of what you may have heard about the UK NHS is political propaganda peddled by the US right wing. I speak as someone who is a conservative by nature so it always grates with me to hear Fox news and others slagging off the NHS when they have had little or no direct experience of it themselves.

I have never quite grasped the philosophy of "self reliance" when its only applied to one public service but not others. I assume US fire fighters are paid for out of tax as is the Police force, refuse collection etc?

I have a number of health issues including newly diagnosed diabetes, also arthritis all my life, blood pressure problems, sleep apnea, a removed gall bladder, two hand operations, etc. My experiences have been largely positive, so I dont think you will have any problems.
