Good to hear you want to explore Poser. I've been dabbling with it myself for a couple of years now. I'd be glad to offer some in's and out's on what I have found.
First, Poser is a great toy...um tool to have for doing images. Once you get started it's kind of addicting. I've mostly been a learn as I go type renderer.
Currently there are 2 main versions of Poser that are out...Poser 5 and just recently upgraded Poser 6 which, from what I've heard is considerably more user freindly. I have Poser 5 which works fine for me.
Now, some of the points to consider........
One, You need a good Computer to use it on, one with a fast Pentium proc and alot of memory at least 512Mb (the more the better). I currently have a pentium 3 with 384Mb and it takes a little longer for an image to render. But when I first started I was using a Celeron Processor with 128Mb and needless to say it took a couple of hours just to render a very simple image.
Two, just getting the program is only a small part of the fun. the progarm allows you to create some images, but very basic ones. There are sights where you must also purchse (and some free Downloads) things like "Props", "clothes" and "textures" that will make your images more real. SItes like
www.Renderosity.com, and
www.Daz3D.com. Many other artists out there have put together clothing such as bra, panties, and panty hose that you could spend weeks playing with the colors and textures.
If you would like to see some of my work and how things have progressed over the past years I have a web site where the images are stored:
http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/mtdomain
the site has been made Private by Smartgroups so you may have to join to see the images.
If you haven't already you can join
www.ticklingforum.com there are many other Poser renderers there in the TMF artwork archives that can offer you assistance as well.
