Ross landed in Toronto, and took a car to the office to meet John Fish.
"Ross, good to see you. Let me get you an iced tea" John said in greeting, bumping fists with Ross.
Ross and John made small talk for a few minutes, and then John handed Ross output reports for the Canadian and Alaskan fields.
Ross and John looked over the reports, and then, John emailed the reports to Fritz and Steve, called them, and the four men got together on a conference call on the phone.
"Guys, the bottom line is, that the fields here in Canada are giving us all good output, The ones in Alaska are more difficult because the weather is much colder up there, and we can't drill year round. A major Alaskan oil company wanted to buy some or all of the fields, but I was not sure how you guys felt about that" John said.
"John, I'll tell you what. Since I'm going to be up here only today, why dont you prepare a proposal , send it to all of us. The four of us will discuss this again on a conference call when I;m in New York or even OKC, and then if we agree, we can send it off to that company in Alaska, and see what they have to say, and what we can negotiate with them. That would seem to me to be our best course of action" Ross said, as all of the men agreed.
Ross and John went out to lunch, and then Ross went to the airport, texted Kayley that he would be coming home that night. Ross got on a 5 pm flight to NY which landed at JFK at 630, and he walked in the door at 715.
"That was fast" Kayley said, kissing Ross.
Ross sighed. "I wanted to get home so I would not have to sleep over. John Fish said that we are having drilling problems in Alaska due to the weather and the tundra John thinks that we might have to sell the Alaskan fields, keep the Canadian ones, get whatever we can for the Alaskan fields, take the money, and drill or buy more fields in Canada , or put the money into other projects up there or somewhere else with John" Ross said, truthfully but with disappointment in his voice.,
"How do you feel about that?" Kayley said.
"I realize that business is a game of wins and losses. Basically, especially with the Oklahoma and Texas fields, RFS Energy has really been nothing but wins for Fritz, Steve, John and I. We have really not suffered any major losses except that when Fritz , Steve and I have launched into real estate, it is a pain in the ass, but that is a different game. My thought, just accept what is going to happen in Alaska, expand the Canada fields if and where we can, and then we see what we can do to expand the Oklahoma and Texas fields" Ross said.
"So what now?" Kayley said.
"Now its home with you for six or seven days, into the office, and continue to have Charles Harton drive me and the rest of the staff at RossShell insane. By Tuesday or Wednesday next week, it is back to OKC for two days max. Charles is dangling that he "Might know other people, but he wants me to come up with a project that he will approve first, so first things first" Ross said.
Ross was too tired to make love that night. Ross and Kayley just held each other. The next morning, Ross, a bit out of it, threw on jeans, kissed Kayley goodbye, and went into the office.
Ross sat at his computer looking at past projects, seeing what he could do or come up with to satisfy Charles Harton. Ross almost felt like his mind was blank. That had never happened with anyone, not even Timothy as difficult as Timothy was through the years.
Ross was working with his office door closed, a rarity for Ross, as he usually walked around or wanted to hear what was going on all over the office, or to sometimes walk around the whole office. This time, he just stood up from his own chair periodically, and walked around his huge private office overlooking New York City and the East River.
Shortly before noon, there was a knock at Ross's office door. It was Ross's secretary , Ashley.
"Ross, Charles Harton is here to see you" Ashley said,.
Ross took a deep breath, and was very annoyed. While Ross did not like it when Timothy just "Showed up", Timothy was also Ross's client since they were both young, and Ross's best friend. Charles Harton was a new client , and Harton was quickly becoming a major thorn in Ross's side.
Ross walked out of his office, and met Harton at the visitors chair.
"Ross, I just took a chance that you would be here" Charles said.
Ross kept his cool and said. "Okay, Charles, come in. Ashley hold all of my calls please" Ross said, as Ross closed his office door, Ross sat in his chair, and Charles sat in the visito/client's chair. \
"Ross, I know how through you are, but I also know that you work rapidly, and that you seem.. stuck. What would you think if I came up with a smaller, or less detailed project for you say within a week?" Charles asked.
Ross sighed. "Charles, smaller and less detailed is fine, but, I rearranged my schedule ,and did not go to OKC for almost two weeks because of what I've been working on for you. I thought I was going to make progress on you this week, and then I was planning on going for two or three days next week. I must get down there to see my partners in the Energy company, and meet some investors and clients" Ross said, calmly but honestly.
Ross, please just do whatever you have to do. Go and come when you were planning to. By Monday of the following week, when you get home, I will have a less cumbersome request that should take you no more than a week to do. After that, we should have no trouble moving forward" Charles said.
"Okay, that's fine" Ross said.
"Let me take you to lunch, my treat. Say a gift for working on this, and then changing the project" Charles offered.
Ross smiled. "Just fine"
Ross and Charles headed out of the office. "Ashley, Mister Harton and I are going out to lunch. I may or may not be back this afternoon. I will call and let everyone know"
"Okay, Ross. Hope you both have a good lunch" Ashley said.
Ross and Charles went to The Palm for lunch. They commiserated and talked for about two hours. When they said goodbye, Ross went home. It was only 230, and Ross entered the apartment at 3. Kayley was just getting home from school, having an early dismissal due to the school;s principal , having meetings with the parents of the school's students.
"Oh, My God, You're early" Kayley said in amazement.
"Hello to you, too, and so are you" Ross said, kissing Kayley in greeting.
"I got dismissed early due to principal parent meetings. Teachers meet with the parents tomorrow. Why are you home so early?" Kayley asked.
"Simple, Charles Harton came by the office, told me that he can see that the request he gave me was too unrealistic for a first project, agreed to scale down his request, and said he would have said request to me by the time I get home from OKC. The trip is still on from Monday morning to Wednesday. I will be home as early on Wednesday as I can. Just two shows and maybe a third one early Wednesday morning, okay? I told you that I was going to cool it with the frequency and length of the trips, and I'm trying to" Ross said.
Kayley kissed Ross. "You're being really good and honest about trying. I give you credit for that. Ross, are you sorry you accepted Harton's account? To be honest, he seems worse with changes and giving you the Run Around than Timothy was at his worst" Kayley said.
"I dont know yet, Kale. Let me try to complete a first project for the guy, and then see how he reacts. He did not give me any static when I told him about having to go to OKC" Ross reasoned.
"Ross, he's a new client. Charles knows about your obligations and one third ownership of RFS Energy. I think he is a bit leery that you might pack him in. We both know that he can be, and is being very difficult, but I also think that he wants to work with you to get something done" Kayley said.
Ross and Kayley made love that night.
The couple had a quiet rest of the week, and just spent the weekend at home , before Ross had to pack to go to OKC.
Ross and Kayley made love again on Sunday night, as Ross would be gone for three days.
At 4 am Monday, Ross awakened, showered, kissed Kayley goodbye, and took a 5 am Uber to JFK for his 8 am flight to OKC.
The flight landed with changeover at 1130 OKC time. Ross then went into an Uber, and went upstairs to the office.
What would happen on this OKC trip? Ross had experienced a very difficult week thus far with the Canadian Energy company needing to sell the Alaskan fields and investment, and then the change around and essential start over on Charles Harton;'s work and request.
Would the OKC trip be positive and improve Ross's mood?
That would be seen.
