Can't figure out how to put videos in my ipod

I got a ipod for christmas and it can play videos but i can't figure out how to put them in my ipod if anyone could help i would be grateful

The movies must be "purchased" through iTunes or copied from a DVD. A copyright protected DVD will not work.

I've heard rumors about illicit software packages with which unscrupulous individuals shamelessly copy data from DVD's, even copy--protected ones, and then load them into their portable playback devices. Some of these unprincipled souls distribute these packages on the web for free, doubtlessly to lure the unsuspecting movie fan into a life of degeneracy, immorality and crime!!!!
