It's not often that I draw something that I end up in awe of. really...I can't believe it was me who drew this.
This took...well...all day. Off and on for 9 hours so maybe 4 or 5 hours total....perhaps even more, I'm not sure.
Sorta funny story though. Well, not funny. Less funny and more IRRITATING. I started drawing this same picture last night. I worked on it for about an hour and a half. I started seeing that it was turning out really well and that I ought to save it before something crashes (though photoshop never crashes for me). So I opened the save dialogue, look down at the keyboard to type in a name for it, look back up and...what? Where'd it go? Photoshop had disapeared right off the map. I about wet myself I was so mad!

I would normally just call it quits but I really was in love with the idea so today I started over from scratch. It's something I've wanted to draw for a while now and I finally got around to doing it.

Anyway...enough words. This is Sakura (Card Captor Sakura) dressed as Sesshoumaru (Inuyasha). For those who dont know (as I assume some dont) Sakura dresses up in suprememly bizarre costumes in her program which leads people do draw her dressed as characters from other anime. Dressing her as Sesshoumaru seemed so wrong that it just had to be right. I adore Sesshoumaru and Sakura is cute as a damn button (though very hard to draw) so I had to try it...

I put a lot more detail in this than normal so, while it's still posted in large and small sizes for you, I made them wallpaper sized. Also there's a small section I cut out just to show some of the detail in case you were interested.

(ps to HDS...I tweaked a few things since showing this to you earlier so if you happened to save it please save this over it!)

As always your comment/feedback is desired, welcomed, and appreciated!

I thought I would also post a few captures from the creation process. I saw some other people do it and there seemed to be an interest. 🙂
First is the blank line art...second is after applying the base coloring...and third is with a bulk of the coloring and shading done but before I created the background. Hope you find this somewhat interesting. ^_^
As you can see in the difference between the last pic and the final product I ended up changing the highlight of the hair as well as the shape of the fluff where it drapes over the arm.

This is the best picture you've ever created. Theres no need to explain why, you already know why because you're the one who drew it and invested all this time into making it your crowning achievement. 🙂

Thanks very much, Vlad! I can't wait to see your chibi Sesshoumaru if/when you make it. It was all that talk of it that finally pushed me to draw this.
While it did take FOREVER to draw it was definately worth the effort. When I wrote about my losing the first pic to crashage I half expected you to lecture me against the dignital medium. ^_^;;

One hates to use the same old hyperbole when assessing your work, as after a while one starts to sound unimaginative. But its consistent quality leaves little choice: this is stunning! The tricky lunar backlighting is managed perfectly, and the lovely costuming is even better rendered than in your fine HDS picture from last night. The whole tableau has an ethereal innocence, well reflected in Sakura's happy, childlike guilelessness and the predominent misty white color motif. I don't know what more to say... this is superlative! You outdo yourself with each new picture, ness!

Thank you also for posting pictures of the creative process. Many forum artists are doing this now, and I think it's a very good idea. Man, that program looks really involved... guess I better stick to paper!

Mmmhmm...yeeess...yeesss.....mmmm.....mmmmhmmmm...

The verdict is in and...

Great Job!

Thank you so much, LBH!! I'd like to do more Sakura pics in the future as I just adore her ^^

Nessonite--

I'm a "long time listener, first time caller" fan of your artwork. Have always enjoyed your work, but have never posted a response until now. That is the most wonderfully adorable and absolutely hysterical image I have ever seen!!! Bravo!!!

So... in this Sakura as Sesshoumaru world of yours, does that mean that Tomoyo/Madison is Jaken? Hey... that actually kinda works on far too many frightening levels...

Thanks for calling in! ^_^ I, sadly, never really watched Card Captor Sakura so Im not real familiar with the characters. I never watch network tv and I dont think it ran on cable. >.< I've just seen stuff about it online and I'm completely enamoured with Sakura and all her adorable little costimes. ^_^

I don't have a problem with digital art or the medium of it. I never did, I just said/say it shouldn't replace (or be completely depended on) traditional skills that should be given the time they need as well so as to make one a more broader, wholesome artist. I actually got my tablet yeseterday, so I'm looking forward to coloring digitally and creating art completely digitally. Its going to make the whole digital process alot smoother. 🙂

Excellent ^^ What size tablet did you get? I've only got a little one (4x6). Hopefully you got the larger size. I think you'll enjoy it ^^

I got me the wacom intuos3 4x5. Its the best choice of tablet for what I'm going to use it for. Alot of people have the older graphire tablets, and those are fine too, but the newer intuous line of wacom tablets are more specfically geared to work in tandum with painter and photoshop.

The intuos tablets are more expensive than the graphires, but its ok, because I paid for my tablet with part of my tax refund check, so I really didn't lose or gain any money and broke even with this purchase, so to speak. To say I recieved the tablet "free" wouldn't be correct, since I earned the money in the refund check.

Anyways, for a while I was going to get the 6x8 simply because its a bigger screen matrix to work with and a better screen/tablet ratio. But it was more than I wanted to pay for a tablet right now. Besides, the smaller 4x5 is just fine for me and I have a laptop, not a desktop, so the smaller tablet is more convenient and portable, like the laptop. I don't mind having to scroll a bit to find empty space to draw in (in the cases I'll need it). I'm not going to pay hundreds more just for a little added convenience.

I know I'll enjoy it. I've been wanting one for a while now and I've been looking into different tablets. Wacom is the leading company in tablets, so the quality of my purchase is assured. That and I bought an extended 4-year warranty for it, which covers things the limited warranty does not, so thats good. 🙂

I think Wacom is about the ONLY name in tablets. The only one I ever see refernced anyway and, as far as I know, is what professionals use.
At some point I would like to upgrade. I have, I think, the Graphire 2 and now it's several years old. it works fantastic considering it's been sitting on the clusterfuck that is my desk all this time getting things piled on top of it, spilled on it, etc. The only thing Ive done is replace the pen since I lost the original (the new one is tethered to the tablet with a piece of string). I probably will wait until i can afford the larger size and will either get the bigger Graphire 3 or the bigger Intuos. No real rush though...this one has worked great for me all this time. ^^

Yeah, any size tablet can do the same job. Thats something that very deceptive to people who don't look into the purchase. Some people actually believe that bigger is better and assume larger tablets (in this case the 6x8, 9x12 and 12x18) do more than the smaller ones.

Its all about the convenience of screen/tablet ratio which does not make or break the use of a tablet to it's optimum potential. Everything else is up to the artist anyway. Ideally, I'll want two tablets in the future, one larger one for work/home and I'll keep this one as a portable/backup. Sweet deal either way and if you really look at the size of 4x5, its not THAT small at all. Most lineart I've seen can fit in that much space, or at least 80% of it can. Its only when you're creating large pictures that you'd even have to scroll that much or at all and its not at all keeping you from drawing whatever you want at whatever size you want.

And in the case of drawing chibis, no larger size is necessary. 😀

I think the size tablet you need is decided mostly by how "big" you like to draw. Someone who uses big, sweeping hand motions wouldn't be able to work with a smaller tablet. Fortunately I tend to draw rather small though a bigger tablet would allow me to draw greater amounts of detail without zooming way in. I find that now if i try to draw anything really intricate the lines become wobbly and run together cause the pen is working in a quarter inch square of the tablet.

The more expensive and larger tablets have a much finer resolution as well, so can produce more detailed movements of your pen.

I have an Intuous on my machine at work and I find it very useful in Adobe Illustrator. I also love the fact that OS X supports gestures in all apps so I can use the pen to undo, print, save, cut, paste etc and use it to take notes that are converted to text.

Ness, your artwork is, as usual, exceptional.

Thats true. I'm guilty of using sweeping hand motions sometimes, but I wouldn't have purchased this tablet if I wasn't sure whether this would be a problem for me or not. I think its an individual thing that varies from person to person and its not a downside that aflicts everyone.

fantastic pic, Nessonite! 🙂

I admire the people who have the skill to draw manga style and draw digitally (two things I am unable to). I have experimented with programs like Photoshop, but I am too impatient to actually master them. I work a lot faster in the classic "paint and paper" way, so I personally will no doubt specialize in that direction.

Thanks Joham and Scav and thanks (I think) Mr Roboto ^_^

Joham, the thing about better resolution was more or less what I was trying to say...I just didnt say it as well ^_^

*eyes fall out*

super, great, squiggly, wiggly, (running outta adjectives here) pic!

you could make money from your skills.

been doing some practice drawing myself, but once i get good enough, i'll post my works here. you inspired me to take a hold to what little artists skills i have and reap the benefits.

sounding like a broken record here, but THIS is your best work yet.

Normie...I'd love to see what you make when you're ready to share!
I have made *some* money with my "skills" but precious little. Not counting the web work I've done which isnt really the same I think it totals $220. 😀

when i feel i can draw better than my little sister when she was in kindergarten, i'll post it. hehe. 🙄

but i have the ability. i remember i made a pic for groundhog day in kindergarten that was absolutely breathtaking, my proudest work ever. until an evil nanny ripped it to shreds cause i was eager to show it to my mother.
