Okay, so I had to leave my Herp Kittehs in my apartment while I had some medical procedures done this past month. My sister was coming in and feeding them and sorta cleaning out of the litter box. Of course the first thing I did when I came home was hose out the box and mop the bathroom floor but this place still absolutely reeks! I can't find where it's coming from. I'm about to start brush scrubbing my entire carpet in hopes that will help. What works best on getting rid of that horrid smell?

1...lock cats in bathroom

2...Move away

Hope this helps.... 🙂

If they have peed on the carpet, then you will need to get it steam cleaned.

It turns out it wasn't on my carpet after all. Apparently one of the times my sister came over she accidentally closed the bathroom door so they were using their cat house. She failed to tell me this until just a few hours ago. Nonetheless, washing out the cat house and spraying around with the arm and hammer stuff fixed the problem. Thanks guys 🙂

Arm and Hammer baking soda (if you can find one for pet odors, that would be great) and Febreze (fabric refresher and neutralizer seems to work the best).

A cheap but effective solution is vinegar. It neutralizes the ammonia in cat urine, and works great when used while washing laundry.

How can a cat house charge what they do if they stink......oh wait..... My last renters let their dogs do #'s 1 & 2 all over to the point of me having to even replace the subfloor in four rooms!! Congratulations on getting rid of the smell with a good thorough cleaning.

Cats are idiots......Get a puppy.:dog:

Dogs are some of the dumbest animals on the planet! That's why they have to be trained; if left to their own devices it's just ugly. That's why it's unlikely I'll ever have another dog.

Switched to cats in 1995 and never looked back. Show them the food and litterbox and you rarely have any problems with them. The only problem you'll have with them is if you don't keep the box clean; they're very clean animals and won't go in a nasty area.....which leaves the rest of the house as their toilet. So keep it nice and they'll be nice............

And arm and hammer rocks!!!!

So,..... dogs are so dumb they have to be trained,.... but with cats, it's the cats who do the training? That's what I'm hearing.

I'm a pet owner, not a pet parent so I don't know who's cat's training whom, but it doesn't happen in my house.........:marchofthekitties:

Whew! Glad to hear it, kis,.... however, just for the record, I have both a dog AND a cat. The dog, a 100 pound chocolate lab male, is a contributing member of the household,.... while the female calico merely lies around being waited on. My dog can hear someone whispering out on the sidewalk in our "questionable" neighborhood and never fails to stand guard of the house,....and when I take walks with him, anyone contemplating giving me any trouble would have to be suicidal, trust me. He keeps my garden area clear of groundhogs and rabbits (which he happily devours) and once last season brought down a trespassing deer, thereby putting some 50 pounds of fresh venison in my freezer. He wakes me up if I don't hear the alarm and responds to a spoken vocabulary of over fifty words. He points, retrieves and follows every command under any circumstance. We are a team. Do you think I could say that about my cat?

I never said dogs weren't useful.....I just said they are not very smart and without training left to their own devices things can get ugly!

My cat is a companion and natural hunter. I don't live very far from the lake in two cities and sometime run into mouse problems. He handles that business without a problem. He's not the world's most social animal, but he keeps me good company (almost to a fault at times).

But he can keep me entertained with a cat toy, flashlight, or laser pen. Now watching him attempt to climb the wall provides me with the humor I need to get through an otherwise hectic and stressful day? Have you ever seen a cat after a nice dose of catnip? Wow, we're both happy after that....

I don't know what you can say about your cat, but that's what I can say about mine.

I hope everyone knows this is in fun and humor and not a cat's vs dogs drama.

Had dogs all my life and it was just too much work and maintenance. Cats just don't need that much to be happy.

hehe believe it or not, I have guard cats. They're really funny about strangers, especially men, inside the apartment (not like i have a whole lot of those coming over or anything :3). My brother in law came in the feed the cats once, and in the course of 5 minutes, one had attempted to scratch him (luckily they're declawed) and the other bit him on the leg while he was filling the bowls. If I'm here, though, they're just fine with other people around. So yeah, attack cats ... I knew starting my crazy cat lady collection was a good idea.

kis & Saeria,...

You're right, kis,..... all in good fun. Dogs have a unique position as "domesticate-able" as a result of their evolutionary "pack mentality." They totally understand a prescribed pecking order of authority,.. accounting for their loyalty and obedience. And hey, if they were actually not very smart, they couldn't be trained, eh? I can't think of an animal which adapts better to being a person's companion,.... protecting them,... sensing their moods,... being content in their station.

"Guard cats" sound interesting. My cat DOES catch the occasional mouse,.... but guard-wise, I have to go with my trusty dog. He could rip someone's head off.

Now that I think about it,... and considering how much I hate the litter box ritual,.. I'd have to say that the cat actually costs me more "un-enjoyable" time. The dog is no trouble at all, since I have ample yard space.
