I had a post censored the other day, siting the rules about trading clips and posting of certain companies' material. I did not post anything, and no mention was made of a trade. I simply let my email address for someone requesting something that I had so that that person and I might do business. This is why I left my address, so that whatever transacted was between he and I. I guess what I am saing is, if I am not using the forum to trade, sell, loan, whatever, I don't see that it is anyone's business but mine and the person I am doing business with. I was simply going to make a DVD from a VHS tape for this person. I have the tape, bought and payed for from the company.

hmmmmm...

My guess would be that mentioning a trade that is forbidden by the producers on this forum is bad because if you used the forum as the middle man (i.e. to get in contact with each other) then the forum may get in trouble.

This may sound farfetched but it's only my guess.

Nowhere in my original post was the word "trade" mentioned.

America is becoming like the 1950's were...repressed, overclothed and sickly politically correct! :sigh:

That particular producer is very upset with us about their material being posted or requested here; the owner of the company has repeatedly complained about our "illegally" hosting their copyrighted clips.

Posting an offer to make an unauthorised (bootleg) copy of a VHS tape, from a producer who is already upset with us about claimed copyright infringement, puts the forum in danger of being sued.

The reason for my edit being placed in massive, red letters is because we are deleting requests from the no-post list and off-board sharing offers several times a day, but still, people do not read the rules. (The number of views in the sticky rules threads is a small fraction of our membership totals.) I can't send a PM to anyone who has less than 10 posts, so there is no other way I could have explained the problem.

It's nothing personal, please believe me; we just don't want to hear from Paradise Vision's lawyers over DMCA infringement claims.

Very best regards,

In general, your observation is true, but it has nothing to do with the matter under discussion here. The problem here is the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, over which we have NO control. If a producer doesn't want their material posted here, we are obligated to remove it.

Here is the complete US copyright law: http://www.copyright.gov/title17

If you disagree with some of its provisions, you should consider becoming active in anti-DMCA groups like www.eff.org or www.epic.org as well as contacting your elected officials and expressing your concerns.

Thank you for your understanding,

I only meant to say that I did not, nor would I, intentionally do anything to get anyone, especially myself, in any trouble. I was just trying to offer to do something nice for someone. I did not mean to violate any rules, and I offer my apologies for doing so. And yeah, I wanted to just send the person a PM in the first place anyway, but couldn't. Guess maybe I should just go back to being a lurker to stay out of trouble.

I understand that you were only trying to help, Big Kahuna. Only members with 10 or more posts can use the PM system (I wish it were not that way), which is why you couldn't send a PM.

Because this forum is so large, we attract a lot of attention from producers, some of whom are happy to share with us, but also others who feel that we're diluting the market for their material. Unfortunately, it's out of our hands 🙁

Maybe if enough members contacted the producers from the no-post list and asked them to reconsider, some of them would allow limited sharing of their material again, with our assurances that the amount would not be excessive. Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

Best regards,

Oh brother... PV has been threatening people in this way for years now. If you want a good laugh, run a search for "lawyers" and "Paradise Vision" on the old Usenet tickling groups. 😀

I don't understand why people still do business with them, after that whole fiasco where they sent unsolicited fetish catalogs to people's home (postal, not e-mail) mailboxes...

Thank you for your understanding,

Youre right Val about your legal restraints. My comment had nothing to do with them...its just an observation like you said. Oh and youre cute!! 🙂

Thanks for the info, ASU -- I didn't know that was their modus operandi.

Thanks, Supernaught 😱 I share much of your frustration about how litigious and liability-conscious our society has become. I think the only people who benefit are trial lawyers :sigh:

Supernaught and I think alike
I discovered other treads where his opinion and mine where very similar

Sorry nothing to do with this tread but I had to say it but just to stay a little on topic

I totally respect the forums actions as they are the ones that provide us with so much joy that it would be stupid to let them be sued and therefore maybe closed just for our carelessness and sue-happy producers

I always think alike with people who like the mighty Iron Maiden! But I always obey Mistress Val! 😉
