This morning there was a grand daddy long leg spider in the hall..i'm not afraid of spiders generally..but something about grand daddies does scare me..it stems back from when i was a toddler and trying to get into the house, and was barred by what at the time, and still in my memory seemed the most gigantic spider i'd ever seen..of course that was a child's view on what was probably a normal sized spider...i can still picture in my mind how huge that spider seemed to me..almost as big as the robot spider in Johnny Quest..

Another fear is of clowns...as a child our Church showed this take off on the Crucifixion...Jesus was portrayed as a clown...with a white face and black markings...no red nose...and he was strung up and stabbed repeatedly by these sharp sticks..and the scream that came out of HIs mouth was surreal..a cry of utter anguish and despair...ever since viewing that film, i've had an irrational fear of clowns..

What childhood fears have you not out grown yet?

Funny, I had a fear in elementary school of being barefoot... really... latent ler foot fetish, I guess. Not exactly sure when I got over this... I did buy a pair of sandals a couple of years ago which is something I wouldn't have dreamed to do, even in high school.

Well, hun....even those this won't allay your fears, the "daddy long legs", or harvester, isn't technically a spider. But once you have a fear instilled within you, they're hard to get rid of.

As far as the church using the clown to crucify and kill...I'm trying REALLY hard not to go off on a rant on the utter stupidity of religion in general. So, I'll resist the urge to go down that path. I'll just leave it at my wish that the people who set up that little soiree should have been the ones strung up and stabbed...preferably in the eyes.

My own arachnophobia springs from something a little more mundane, as I'm deathly allergic to spider venom. (And yes, ALL spiders are venomous, it's how they kill prey. Most simply don't wield a venom powerful enough to affect humans. Unless, of course, you're allergic to them.)

Dave i so agree...i was raised Lutheran..i mean why on earth would they show such a terrifying movie to gullible children..and stupid me watched it again at my dad's friend's house, because i had a crush on the friend's son...damn..

hmm what is a harvester...or should i google it?

ooo and about venom..i was deathly afraid of bees all my life, as i'd never been stung..and i was sure that since i escaped that, it meant i was probably horribly allergic to bee venom..well three summers ago i was finally stung by a wasp..damn thing swooped down and stung my arm..well we were on vacation..and i immediately panicked lol..i went inside and yelled to David "I've been stung, i'm gonna die" and sat down waiting for my throat to swell shut..he calmly handed me the benadryl, and put ice on the sting..and since i'm still here, guess i'm not deathly allergic..i'm not quite as afraid of bees now.

Bees here, too. I hate those buzzing, stinging little fuckers. It started when I was a little kid and one landed on my finger as I was indulging in some cotton candy during a family outing. Didn't sting me, but freaked me the hell out and made me grab hold of my mom after she managed to shake it off of me. I have still never been stung because I am ridiculously aware of those little buggers during the warm months. It's a fear I very much wish I could control better than I do.

P.S. Spiders are another one, but on a somewhat lower level.

man i hate spiders and clowns as well

This is abit off-topic, but does anyone else still have dreams where you're essentially a kid still, seeing things from their height and with none of the bonuses of being an adult?
I do all the time!
Stuff like getting chased through strange houses or being in movie backlots or carnivals after hours(last night's weird dream)...

Bees. Mainly cuz they are so quick and can fly. Now if i see a spider i can easily step on it. A Bee on the other hand will sting your ass while your flailing around like a little girl trying to get away. Fuck bee's I dont even like honey.

dude butterflys i know it seems strange but yeah... lol dont judge me

Also nice to have you aboard " Nerdyroc ". Hope ya like the site

thanks man, um i dont know man just been a little freaked out by the really big ones

I have always been deathly afraid of heights! I can't do second story work! Never climbed trees, and rarely ride amusement rides that reach the heights!

I have been this way my whole life, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Took the kids to Disneyworld last summer, and tried to ride some of the rides with them. I don't even want to remember them!:scared

Hmm....dying without having realized my true potential. And having my worst fears about the afterlife being true. (Though it'd be cool!)

Izzy, I think I completely understand your fear of daddy long legs (spiders), with it looking SO massive. I still vividly remember seeing an orange spider, with three black zig-zag stripes down the middle of its back, on the outside of one of those big pipes you can walk through in day care - the size of a basketball! 😱 :scared: But, I'm not too afraid anymore, as long as I can find something hard to squish them with before they escape and I get tinglies everywhere.
Actually, daddy long legs can't bite you, if that's any consolation. Though, as Dave said, all spiders do have venom. Their fangs just aren't long enough to pierce the thickness of your skin (watch Mythbusters. They test a myth involving that)

Wow. Long rant/lecture about one of my lesser fears (still hate the little buggers. Legs crawling around everywhere on you... *shivers*), but I think my greatest fear is of badly made evil puppets. I don't know, I just am. I remember watching Little Shop of Horrors when I was 13, 14, or maybe even 15, and after I saw the massive venus fly trap plant, I balled in my bed and went up to my mom because I couldn't get to sleep. Or another movie that had evil ducks, that lived in another dimension through 'special' mirrors, that boiled humans to make a delicacy tea (I was young, and it was really stupid). I still ended up crying and holding onto my mommy, though.
All this, and I still remember seeing Alien pop out of a dog's chest in some movie when I was 7 or 8, and watching bits and pieces of the rest of that, and not being nearly as traumatized as by a badly done, obviously fake, puppet.
I don't know, it's just weird. Gremlins still make me feel unnerved too, I think. ... :umm:
