A friend of mine was at a Wal-Mart recently with his 6 year old son, and they were playing a video game on a demo machine. A man wanted to get by them in the slightly narrow aisle, and said, "Excuse me" to the boy. He seemed to ignore him, so the man again said, "Excuse me" in a slightly louder voice. My friend's son again looked like he didn't hear him, so his father told him, "Son, the man wants to get through." So he moved and the man went on down the row. My friend looked at his son and asked, "Didn't you hear him say 'excuse me'?" The boy innocently looked at his dad and said, "Yeah, but I just thought he farted."

Children's honesty...

I remember a subway ride with my elder daughter, who was about 4 at that time. Just opposite of us, there sat a middle-aged, heavily perfumed, rather overweight, very distinguished lady. Suddenly my daughter remarks in a voice loud enough to be heard by the whole car: "Daddy, that fat old lady REALLY smells BAD!!!" I thought I'd jump out of the subway from embarrassment, but everybody in earshot laughed heartily, until finally the insulted lady joined in the hilarity... 😀
