Child's Science experiment goes terribly wrong

A child in Ukraine was conducting a science experiment with bubble gum.He dipped the gum in citric acid,and then in a chemical solution (possibly explosive solution)chewed the gum.The gum ended up exploding;blowing off the child's jaw and the bottom of his face.Tragically killing the child.
I want to know where on Earth were the parents? This is why you have to watch your children.You can't leave them alone with chemicals,what were they thinking?I mean not that this was the brightest idea in the first place but the tragedy could have been prevented.

God only knows how some of us survived our childhood. My earliest memory (2 or 3 years old?) was plugging in a short cord with stripped leads into a wall outlet. I have no idea why it was on the floor.
