Just figured I would toss this out here...

What are some of the movies that you can just watch anytime that you really love (could be any genre), or if you're flipping channels, no matter where it is in the film, you stop and watch?

Mine: Jaws.

Most of the classic Disney animated movies. Any Mel Brooks films.

Other tan those, I'd have to say The Sting (1973)

God's I've got a bunch of them dude. Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the first one), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Predator (the first one only), any of the Star Trek films (except Wrath of Kahn), Mortal Kombat (the 90's one), Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, there's like so many to choose from. heh.

Manhunter (1986) also, the best Hannibal Lecter.
Ladyhawke (1983)
What's Up, Doc (1972)

I cannot for the life of me understand why people like the Hannibal Lecter movies.

The real life Hannibal Lecter (aka the person the character is based on) was caught and died like a complete and total BITCH in prison when the other prisoners set him on fire and burned him alive when he was locked up in his own cell (and to be honest I don't blame them).

Manhunter is an amazing movie, and Brian Cox plays Hannibal Lecter better than anyone, IMO.

Hannibal Lecter was actually a composite of several different killers, and one doctor in particular, Alfredo Ballí Treviño : https://www.biography.com/news/real-life-hannibal-lecter-alfredo-balli-trevino

The Princess Bride
Any of the Avengers movies (or the individual character films)
Any Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts
The Greatest Showman

Die Hard [1998]

After the Rain [1999]

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya [2013]

The Legend of the Drunken Master [1994]

The Karate Kid [1984]

Back to the Future I & II [1985-1989]

Flesh+Blood [1985]

Any of the original Star Wars (eps IV-VI)

Any of the first 3 Alien films

Anything made by Kurosawa Akira

Then I'm going to go with the Futurama movies.

Particularly Benders Game and Into the Wild Green Yonder.

God, as a guy whose always been big into movies, I've got a list i've accumilated over the years. Off the top of my head, here are some.

The Godfather.

Carlito's Way.

Scarface.

Aliens.

Sleepers.

V for Vendetta.

Watchmen (Directors cut).

Nineteen Eighty-four.

Tombstone.

Bladerunner (Final edition).

Hotel Rwanda.

The Lord of the Rings movies (Extended cut).

And god knows, more then I can recall at the moment.

Great list Ten. Though you and I both know there are only TWO Alien films. 😉
Also, original Karate Kid? YESSSS! Part II is my favorite! Pat Morita is an awesome actor! 😀
Also, have you tried watching Shaolin, Hero, or The Forbidden Kingdom? All are great films!
Well, I'll leave you with the greatest line every from Die Hard, "Your guy's dead and I have a machine gun. Ho! Ho! Ho!". 😉

Thanks ^_^

Actually, I am a massive fan of Alien 3. I don't know why the American audiences hate it so much (some say the British accents put them off), because it is so good! The set is gorgeous, the actors are perfect and the ending could not have been better! Plus, there is that INCREDIBLE first-person chase scene. Really love it.

Now I have a machine gun, hohoho.jpg

The "Your guy's dead" was implied: John only wrote "Now I have a machine gun. Ho! Ho! Ho!" on the German guy's sweater. Also, not to put too fine a point on it, but it was actually an SMG (an H&K MP5, if memory serves?), not a machine gun per se. Granted, it's an error made by the character himself~

I am not a big fan of those modern Chinese productions where people fly all over the place and fights look like slapping matches between children in a playground. I cannot stand Hero, Crouching Tiger, etc... All pretentious films with no substance, mainly destined to make money on the foreign markets.

Shaolin, however... if you mean the 1982 classic with Jet Li (his first major role, I believe), a thousand times YES!!! One of my personal favorites. It could easily have made my list above.

Zhang Yimou also made a very competent effort recently with Shadow: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6864046/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_9

And there was that other masterpiece by Hou Hsiao-Hsien called The Assassin: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3508840/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

I highly recommend these three

I would say it's for these reasons.

1 They go from many aliens and an alien queen to one alien. Sequels are supposed to UP the threat not lower it dramatically.

2 they killed if the little girl character. It took the whole of the 2nd movie to save her and she's just dead in the beginning.

Then again I kind of prefer the first alien movie to the rest. As fun as Aliens is, having a bunch of them makes them feel like video game enemies with the queen as the boss battle to me. First one had this sense of mystery and realness to it.

They didn't just kill Newt (aka Rebecca). They killed Newt, Hicks, Bishop, AND Ripley. They f'ing killed out the entire surviving cast of Aliens and pretty much ruined the franchise.

Heh, well, you like the original Karate Kid movies so you still have good taste in my book. 😉

I KNOW RIGHT? Jackie Chan uses a human being as a melee weapon in that movie. It's both awesome and hilarious!
