"Circuit City" Going Out Of Business

CIRCUIT CITY HERE I COME!!!!!!

damn in all seriousness, everytime i've gone to that store, it's been crowded..another business down the tubes..

I knew it was only a matter of time when I first read they were closing a lot of their retail locations like the one in my area. It was inevitable that the rest would follow. That's unfortunate for those employees losing their positions and thus just adding more to the UE pool. I hope things start to turn around soon. That's not an invitation to go political... 😉

The one here closed right before Christmas. Honestly, I wasn't too terribly surprised.

They filed Chapter 11 back in November so it's not a total surprise. They were doing bad before all the nonsense. The current economic climate just killed it.

My earliest memory was of going there to purchase a U.S. Robotics Sportster 56K dialup fax-modem, serial interface (yes, it was quite a while ago!).

I wish I'd done more "digging" at CC. They routinely stocked $5.99 or even cheaper CDs, mixed in with their regular-price stock.

When Circuit City arrived in my area, it put out of business a long-established stereo shop where my friends and I had bought our Maxell XLII-90's for many years. That same stereo shop had some time earlier bought out another stereo shop in a neighboring city in order to shut it down. Now Circuit City is biting the big one. There's a message in there someplace.

And yes, I do feel for the CC employees who are going to be pounding the pavement with everyone else in the Bush Depression.

They are going to mark up their prices than start the % off sales.

I bought my TV there last year, but only because no interest for two years on their credit card.

Circut what?

Is that some kinda electro store?

cause the only one i know is Best Buy.

Newegg or local Microcenter rules (If you live by a Micro) CPUs cheapest any where. Tiger Direct always higher by x percent compared to the other egg head store fronts.

There liquidation starts in stores this Saturday the 17th, 2009. Please stay away from any tv. But if you must get one of the "Big 3s" Sony, Sharp, Samsung. LCD NOT plasma!

I was at Circuit City today. In fact, I was the first one in the door. One word - boring. There was only one hard drive in the place bigger than 500 GB (a 1 TB Western Digital "My Book") and the price even with the "discount" seemed high to me compared to Buy.com, or Best Buy's last weekly sale. CD's were 20% off and I scored a few, though their CD selection is piss-poor compared to how it used to be. Everything else is a measly10% off, which only means that you aren't paying sales tax (8.25% in these parts). IOW, this "liquidation" seems to be one of those where there'll only be for-real discounts after all the really desirable stuff is gone. "Suck-It Shitty", to the end!

the hollywood brother was never a big fan of this business. they pissed the hollywood brother off on a extended warrenty issue many years ago. also anytime the hollywood brother would go in there the help was not good or even customer oriented. it is a shame for so many people to lose there jobs but if these people really cared then they would of given better customer service, driven sales better and would of treated the hollywood brother good the few times the hollywood brother went in there looking for info on stero equipment.

They had crappy prices, bad customer service, and a piss poor product sounds to me like they need a bailout. Isn't that what capitalism is all about propping up bloated failing companies so that innovation is squelched. Congress is really dropping the ball here.

I went to CC today and I know why they are going out of business. Everything is overpriced and the lines are slow. 6 registers but only 2 are open. 10% off their inflated prices doesn't help either. I saw a video game marked 19.99 blacked out and 39.99 was put next to it.

There was a brief shpiel on TV today about how the president's new limo is built specially for him by General Motors under their Cadillac imprint. Personally, if I were president, I'd very publicly explain that I wasn't very keen on bailing out fat-assed, monopolistic companies who routinely produced crap, ignored common sense (and the free market) and ended up shooting themselves and their employees in the foot. Then I would requisition a new presidential limousine from Toyota or Subaru, and let it be known that that's who would be making presidential limos until such time as the American "automakers" got their shit together.

Sorry about the rant, but as long as friends of mine keep losing their jobs and/or can't get the health care they need, these "bailouts" really stick in my craw.
