Classic, 2D-styled Mortal Kombat returns!

Anybody else notice the "tag team kombat" at the 49 second mark? This looks very, very promising to me. Too bad I don't own one of the next-gen systems just yet, but if this MK is as good as it looks, I might just be compelled.

LMAO at the fatality at the end. This is going to be hilarious and brilliant!

It does look rather awesome. I hope they're as creative with the rest of the fatalities as it appears they are with Kung Lao's. I think my favorite part of the video was the combo that Sub-Zero pulled off on Cage, right down to the ice blade stabbing at the very end. Here's an article I found on the game. I'm really loving what the reviewer had to say.

And just to update a bit, the video on this site has some more gameplay and a fatality montage as well. Camera's a bit shaky and out of focus, but it still rocks.

Maybe now we'll finally get a Mortal Kombat action/rpg game!

Didn't they already have one? I seem to remember Sub-Zero getting some kind of game to himself, I'm not sure if it was an "action/rpg" per se but apparently it did have some sort of level design other than an unobtrusive flat plane.

EDIT: Of course, as soon as I hit submit reply, I find it.

There was also Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, which came out back in 2005. This was a beat 'em up, action game that allowed you to play as either Liu Kang or Kung Lao, or as both provided you have a friend to team up with in 2-player mode. I never played this one personally, but it looks to have received favorable ratings.

Also, there's a new gameplay video up on Youtube, complete with commentary from Ed Boon. This just keeps looking more and more impressive...

Personally I wouldn't mind a non-button combo RPG of Mortal Kombat (especially if it was like X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse)! As long as I get to form a party of four to five Kombatants and kick Shao Kahn's hordes all the way across Outworld Action/RPG style (and also not have to rely on button combos) then I'll be a happy Rox_My_Sox. ^_^

I've often thought something like that could work pretty well. Personally, I'd be all for it, if Ed Boon and company decide to go that route as a companion piece to the main series.
