A few players on Northwestern's women's lacrosse team sparked a flap when they sported flip-flops to meet the president this summer. In an AOL poll, 57 percent of respondents said they thought it was OK.

The article uses this as an example of how rude Americans have gotten. Flip-flops to the white house? As intergalactic etiquette expert JarJar Binks put it, "how wude!" I think those rude college girls wearing flip-flops should have had them removed and had their young, soft, tender soles tickled mercilessly! I'm so upset about this, I would even volunteer to do it myself! Flip-flops indeed!

Flipflops are good enough for George Bush. If he starts using better judement in running this country, perhaps the girls will dress properly.

That story's a couple of months old. The girls who wore flip-flops auctioned them off on eBay to benefit a charity, so some good actually came about because they violated proper etiquette. I'd still like to tickle them though. 😀

Yeah the main story was about Americans being rude, and they just used the girls in flip-flops as an example. And the 57% or whatever it was in a poll not seeing anything wrong with it. Maybe those 57% were guys with a foot fetish 😀

It just irritated me that the media jumped on this...in part because it potentially discourages other attractive women from wearing flip-flops to dressy occasions...and I certainly wouldn't want THAT to happen!!

Actually, what they did doesn't bother me. It seems there's a generation gap (more young people than old think it's all right). Now if they went barefoot without any shoes, that would be wrong. 😛

I think that young women should wear flip-flops outdoors all the time, as long as the temperature is at least 50 degrees. 😀 And think they should go barefoot indoors, all them time. 😛

A lot of women in SoCal do that, mila. Some of them even wear flip-flops in the rain! And many of them go barefoot indoors, at least when they're at home. Maybe you should move here, then you could see them and be closer to your Dodgers. 😀

A lot of women in SoCal do that, mila. Some of them even wear flip-flops in the rain! And many of them go barefoot indoors, at least when they're at home. Maybe you should move here, then you could see them and be closer to your Dodgers. 😀

I will retire somewhere with a warm climate. But SoCal is among the most expensive of such places.

And it wasn't an abomination to walk into the White House (or any place for that matter) wearing flip-flops. I once stepped into Buckingham Palace barefooted to meet the Queen...the only thing that got me was a trip to the Town Square to be placed in a makeshift stock to be tickled by oncomers, glad most of them that stopped to give a tickle or two were women...there were some men but I was ok with it

I think flip flops at functions is a little rude. It's like wearing pajama shorts or something. The White house? I would think they would have the common sense to wear shoes. It's just etiquette. It's not like ol George W. was wearing crocs...

I think this is a STUPID rant. They are dress is skirts and dresses. They are very nicely. You made a big deal out of nothing. I am mad at the 43% who have a problem with it. The 43% percent including you need to get a life.

I've been there, years ago, in January with -10 degrees (Fahrenheit) the reported temperature but also a 40mph wind off the lake. BRRRRRR!!! 😱
