On the other hand, here is true story of a conversation from our former (now retired) librarian and a college student who came to the reference desk for help:

Librarian: Can I help you?
Student: Yes, why doesn't this library have any books about World War Two?
Librarian: It has very many, dozens of books about World War Two. Did you check the card catalog?
Student: I sure did. It goes straight from World War One to World War Eleven.

OK, the kid never learned Roman numerals. But to make that statement, he would to believe that there were World Wars 3 through 11 that he had never heard about! 😱

Crap! I hope he was making a bad joke and trying to hit on the librarian. Yeah, I know... probably not.

I too have noticed that people are getting college degrees with a very narrow scope of knowledge. I supervise some folks with master's degrees. Only about half of them can type a decent narrative. Glaring mistakes in grammar and spelling make it look like a third grader dictated it to a monkey... and they were both hungover at the time.
