Alright so recently I've been looking into different colleges to apply to. I'm planing to either Major in Geology, hydrology, mining or metallurgical engineering. I got a full scholar ship to attend about any school offering these subjects. But I've got a problem. I know that most schools require an essay and other misc. requirements like outside activities or community service or what not. I have had little to no experience outside of high school and college. The only thing I can think of that I did outside of that was playing on a Little league team and...that's it.

It's not that I didn't want to do anything. My parents practically moved us in the middle of nowhere and since they wroked so much, they didn't have time for my sqaundries like the other whities (I say that cause the majority of kids in school were and always went on how they went here and how they did this...). Is it really a lack of opportunity that is probably going to hold me back in my essays and I think it's not really fair that someone's worth is determined by what he did or didn't do in his free time.

But anyway, do you guys have advise for someone who leads a life of no significant difference or am I pretty much screwed?

I doubt you are totally screwed, particularly if you are getting offers for full scholarships. If you have done little outside of school that may count against you to some degree, however most schools are willing to let people in who have some visible weakness on their application. I don't know what schools you plan to apply to, but if you are worried about your prospects at your more selective choices, I would add in a few less selective ones. In any case you sound like a very qualified and motivated student, and that should count strongly in your favor.

I'll be perfectly honest - the only time I ever wrote an essay was for scholarship applications. Speaking as another constant mover, it's difficult to get those kinds of topics, but just try and grab onto something and run with it. It doesn't necessarily have to be true, either.

I mean school applications, not scholar ship. I'm not worried about that at all.

Nah, it looks good to have lots of extracurricular stuff, but if you have the bottom line I think most places will overlook the sheltered childhood. They're not asking you because it's required, only to get you to write about it.

I was covering it mainly in the 'just in case' scenario. But what I said still applies - I've applied to quite a few schools and I've never had to write an essay for it.
