I'm amazed, not only by the quality (and original approach to the coloring which clearly marks it as a Kalamos work) but by the sheer speed with which you pulled this off.
Lacking tact, we could call it the "I-don't-know-what-the-heck-I-am-doing... so-I'll-throw-in-random-patches-of-colours... and-hope-for-best... because-I-never-learnt-how-to-paint" technique.
😀
...
Part of the trick is being rushed and sloppy.
...
Then, using a nice palette file imaginatively called PAL, I store most of my custom hues on.
I slap it as the topmost layer, and grab some of my fave tints from there.
I originally hand-picked those colours from a miniature of mine.
Prolly mentioned that already, but I had this Mordheim mini, some bowman guy I had glued together from merc sprues.
I wanted to try something brighter than my usual blue and silver I had lazily chosen for my space marine guys...
So I layered some tans, snakebite leather actually, and over tan, some red, lavasomething or somethingelse. And then glazes, inks, and so on.
A few layers after, I had this blond guy in suede pants, linen jerkin, and bright red tunic.
Liked the combination, which was quite striking compared to my gloomy power-armoured blokes, and copied the hues over to paint shop pro.
Yeah, I'm old school.
They've stayed with me ever since, and I save the palette with every new pic, adding the odd colour when I need to.
Saves me a lot of work, because I already have some of my fave hues ready, and I know how to shade or highlight them, without having to create new hues on the spot.
Some timesaver... and I can vary a bit so pics do not quite exactly look all the same.
...
I could revert back to my older darker palette, for sports... and someday, who knows...
