Hi!

I'm a super lurker, but wanted to try my hand at comics. I just wanted to know what everyone's preference was on the story of a traditional comic was.

Do you like a bit of an into? A written story to go along with the pictures? Do you like it to elevate into adult content? Are there any certain "things" that NEED to be present (besides tickling) in the comics?

Thanks in advance for the help! 😱

Hi Darkharp! Exciting news, that you're keen on creating a comic! That's my favorite sort of submission, one which satisfies art and literature appetites in one compact, attractive package!

My recommendation is to not content yourself with "traditional" story elements... deliver as novel a narrative as you can manage, something you've never seen anyone try before, filled with surprises and non-cliche situations. The plot-line for a fetish story should provide a broad context to set the tickling against, offer an independent complexity of character and incident so that the finished product will have depth. The tickling should be almost incidental to the narrative; otherwise, predictability will render your effort familiar and tiresome.

I hope you'll be offering us original characters, not the usual anime princess, super-heroine, pop star du jour. Adding iconic personalities to the community is valuable, productive work; fan-fiction, while sometimes fantasy-fulfilling, is ultimately a static exercise... it offers nothing new to the reader, hiving off the creative heavy lifting to uninvolved third parties.

Lastly, don't become caught up in the mechanics of our fetish (restraint systems, torture implements, areas of attack) to the extent that it objectifies the personalities involved. The participants should come across as individuals, not simply generic provoker and provoked. Whatever their attitudes (smuggness, eagerness, anguish, outrage, acceptance), each should appear to have an existence outside this unusual activity; otherwise, your characters come across as soulless puppets, present only to prod shallow appetites.

That's all I can think to include at present. I'm sure other members will offer far more specific advice. However you decide to proceed (and my preferences are scarcely sacred writ), I applaud your ambition to go the comic route and eagerly await the fruit of your effort! Hearty congratulations in advance!

I'd say, if you're wanting to do a comic, go ahead and take full advantage of what that can provide in terms of pulling your readers into it. Paint a clear picture of who the characters are, where they are, what they're doing. Go a step beyond the generic "someone getting tickled," and build around a core fantasy.

Unique characters are definitely a must. They have to go beyond hottie girls and dashing guys. They need personality and something to make them identifiable in our minds.

You asked whether or not things should be taken into an adult realm. This could easily go either way, but as with so many things, it shouldn't be contrived. If the characters find themselves in a situation that could believably turn erotic, why not? This is fetish content. 😉

Which raises another point I'd like to mention. Despite the vast amount of tickling material out there, things can still be fresh. Not every comic has to be about "character X gets captured and tickled for information." Things like that have been done so often they're no longer unique. They're practically expected. Personally, I'd suggest to keep things perilous and adventurous.

Good luck with however you choose to do it. I'm sure we'd all look forward to some new works here. n_n

Thank you both SO MUCH for your advice. I definitely will follow both your recommendations and put alot of thought into my comic. From what you've both said, personality and originality is key. It may take me a while, but I hope I can get one done by Christmas to publish at MTJpub! I hope I can do a good job!

I really appreciate your help, for such a newb like me! I think I'll go read some fan fics for inspiration! Much love guys! If anyone else has any tips, hints or preferences please feel free to ad on! It's nice to hear what readers really want!

Well i know how hard it is to come up with new material and keep people interested - as said in the above comments try to think of something fresh and un-expected - characters are also hard to create without being too predictable, maybe produce some bio's first so everyone can find out something about them, before-hand,
As for the style of story/comic I'd say go for a bit of both - certain stories involves erotic scenes while other are just for amusing purposes (lol)

Best of luck and good luck with MTJ

A good story line helps out I think Something believable if it's set in modern or historical times Now if you want to do science fiction, then use your imagination

I look forward to seeing your work Good luck with MTJ Pub.

Everyone is so supportive! I love this community, I don't know why I have been such a lurker! Over the winter break maybe i'll create some smaller pieces for everyone's holiday enjoyment! Everyone has such great advice! 😱

I would like to add something about characters.
It doesn't really matter how "original" they are (as almost any archetypical type of person has been drawn already), as long as they are believable characters. Sure thay can be a princess or super-heroine, as long as you give them an original reason to be that way. Give them a history and context to exist in. These do not have to be explained, or written about, but can be suggested visually (as my scenario-writing teacher told us: "Don't tell them, SHOW them").
Practically, you could do this with details, clothing, accessories, scenery, landscapes,... anything visually that would suggest a background.

Take for example my own Inquisitress Kitzalia. A female inquisitress is nothing new as an idea, but instead of setting her into a manga-ish fantasy setting, I chose to give her a place in the dark, muddy, Flemish medieval times. I mixed local history with my own imagination, and am quite happy with the result.

Concerning story/fetish content... From experience I have learned that you got to have a decent amount of fetish content (in this case: tickling) in your comic, in case you want to go commercial. People are paying to see tickling action, after all, if they would just be content with a good story they'd buy a mainstream comic instead. So, commercially speaking, I'd say basicly: the more tickling, the better.
Of course, if there's no room for story anymore, the tickling and the characters lose their reason to exist, and thus lose their credability. So at least some pages (or a good amount of single comic panels mixed through it) should be devoted exclusively into the storyline. If by any chance should you be able to sneak some tickling into a "story panel" (or "story page") by all means do so, it will help create some feel of continuity.
It's up to you to find a good balance between the two.

About adult content... If you feel up to it, I'd say go for it. For many people, tickling is a fetish (in a sexual way) and they will appreciate some (or more) adult content. I myself like to include nudity and suggestive bondage and tickling in my artwork and have had good experiences with it.
Don't try to force yourself on this, just have it the way you like it, which goes for everything else I said as well. After all, it's your comic, and there's no strict formula to create a good or succesful comic.

I'm very interested to see more of your work, especially when you would venture into the world of comic drawing.
I wish you a lot of success!! 🙂

I wish I could provide sensible commentary.

...

I can wish you best of luck on your endeavour, though.
It never hurts.

If the sensible commentary is out... there's always completely nonsensical commentary. :ayyy:

For most humanoids, yes.
For drawing-enabled beings, there is always plan D.

...

Ah... much better now.
