Bit of a tech problem here. You see, I use a laptop, and I must admit, while it's not very fast, being an old model, it's quite convinient. Anyway, I like being able to run it without the cord. That way I may carry it with me, on. However, when my battery reaches around 40-45% left, it shuts off, mysteriously. Anyone know what might cause something like that? 😛

Check your power management feature in control panel or it may be a flaw in the battery and maybe turn it in\get a new one

Ah. Must be the battery then. Everything looks fine in power management.

most likely the battery, or the power meter off. like it's really at 0% when it reads 40%

I dunno how old that laptop is, but some laptops have like an automatic turn-off option when the battery reaches a low percent. (of course, is saves everything) However, thats usually set to like 5-10%.....so, it might just be misset. But, really, its probably your battery.

I've had this problem before and it turned out that I needed to...
1) Get a new battery
2) Update my laptop with new software from the vendor for power management

What brand / model is your laptop?

It's an oldie. 3 years old. Compaq Evo N600c.

I've uncovered two links that I'm sure will help.

1) First is a description for a known problem after your battery for your laptop is 12 months old.

"At approximately 12 months, the battery life is severely diminished. Capacity is really low or the battery will not accept or hold a charge. Microsoft Taskbar and the battery gauge are incorrect. Battery life and capacity are lower after calibration."

2) The next is a little utility for your model laptop that will run a few tests on your battery.
"The utility will test communications, charge, and discharge functions of the battery. Before a battery is replaced the user should run the utility to verify if the battery is at fault."
