Computer Not Going Into Screensaver.

This isnt a forum issue, so I hope the mods are okay with my posting it here, but it is a computer issue.

Sometimes, my computer hasnt been going into screen saver when I;m finished using it. I have an Acer that I bought in August 2011, as I've posted in the past. Sometimes it doesnt go into screensaver if I'm away from it for a few hrs. Today, I was in the city all day, and when I came home, it hadnt gone into screensaver after 10 hours. Finally, after using it a bit, it did go into screensaver.

Is this a major concern? Are there any steps I can and should take to make sure it goes into screensaver? Any advice would be appreciated.

There might be some background process running that's keeping it from going to sleep. Possibly it might even be a virus or trojan if this started happening suddenly. I would try using the task manager (ctrl-alt-delete) to see what processes are running right before you walk away, to see if you can spot the process that is keeping it awake.

If you're not already using Microsoft Security Essentials, I hightly recommend it. It's free and it's very effective.

You should do an update and quick scan pretty much daily, depending on how much time you spend online.

Thanks for the info, Jeff. I will do the ctrl alt delete that you mentioned, and look into the microsoft security essentials.

I dont think the comp has a virus. Usually, I get a red message pop up or screen that comes up on Avast if it has a virus. Everything seems fine, and I have been getting my virus protection updates, but I will check into the other things you mentioned.
