Computer problem.Can anyone help?

Once again my computer has me pulling my hair out.I am just never going to get used to them.Here is the situation,for the past week I have been downloading pics to start a yahoo group.I managed to download a good amount and then upload them into the folder at the group.I can still download pics but when I go to upload them it wont work.Where it says "save as file type" the only one is bitmap bmp.I know before there were file types jpg,gif,and mayber a few more.When I go to upload the pics to a folder it says only jpg and gif files can be uploaded but the only type I have now is bmp.I dont know if I erased them by accident or what happened but I cant figure out how to get them back.I hope that made sense.If any can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

i dont really understand but here is what i know:

in MS Paint, you can click as 'save as' and select .gif or .jpg (recomend jpg) from a drop down box under 'save file as type...'

if you have deleted the file ID from your system then i'll assume these options are no longer available, but i doubt you've done that.

is the problem with yahoo or on your computer?

if you can't convert a file in paint, trying searching the web for 'picture converter' and see what you can find.

When you get the file in bmp, open the file (It should open into MS Paint). Now simply SAVE-AS and you will have an option to save in different formats, including jpeg and gif. Then delete the bmp original.

Some pics on the web cannot be saved as jpeg or gif straight away.
