I have a desktop from Alienware. I tried to turn it on last night but it was odd the power light led came on but nothing happened. No fans. No beeps. Nothing on the monitor. No attempt at the Hard drives even starting up. I turned the power off at the power supply switch but it would not turn off. Led power light still on. Only way to get the light to go off is to unplug the system. If I plug it back in the ligh come back on but nothing happens. I am thinking the switch on the case is broke the one I used to turn it on. Any ideas?

Did you make the proper sacrifice of a goat to the Alienware Gods?

Have you tried to manually start it? As in just get a screwdriver or something and where the power switch wires lead to on the motherboard, manually make the connection?

If that starts it, your power switch may be busted. If it doesn't start, I'd try to manually start the power supply (google for the atx motherboard connector diagram, it should tell you which ports to connect to get the power supply active) to see if it even works correctly.

Nope not yet. 😛 :rainbowbounce:

I have not done the manual start yet. That is the next thing I want to try.

I also want to see if there is maybe some dust or debris on the switch that is shorting it out. The switch does not seem to jam or anything. Its just isnt doing anything.

Thanks :ty: for your time.

The best way of fixing computer hardware issues is to get a paper clip and just start touching leads together. Especially the ones at the power supply.

It looks at this point its either the switch or the motherboard. Hopefully its the switch.

aha I'm being sarcastic, obviously.

Although remember it's only 12V/5V, it's nothing that can kill you, although proper grounding will save your equipment if you do something dumb.
