Corrupt computer file.

I know this forum is dedicated to handling aspects relating to the TMF tech probs, but I was hoping HDS or someone could possibly help me with a potential problem.

Ok, I was playing an online game (Unreal Tournament 2004 if that matters at all) when the game auto-logs off, the computer shuts down and I get a blue screen of death (the first one ever on this particular computer). I restart the computer and I get a pop-up message telling me the file C:\WINDOWS\system32/Sys\ WNPK.002.tmp has been corrupted. My computer seems to be working fine; I can access the internet, my games and programs are all in working order... I'm confused at this corrupt file though. Is it something serious? If so, what can I do to fix it...this kind of has me worried a little. Much thanks and appreciation in advance to anyone that can help me out here 🙂

That's a temporary file. Unsure, I am, as to why it was corrupted; the most likely scenario is that UT did not properly finish accessing it when it closed, causing the file corruption when the game killed its main process. As a temporary file it should not be of much concern. It is highly likely the corrupt file has already been overwritten as temp files usually do not stay dormant for long, especially ones related to Windows.

In short, you are probably fine. Corrupt temp files are about the best type of file to see corruption happen to due to the fact that a restart usually causes them to be recreated.
