(This has NOTHING to do with tickling)

My new cell phone has a problem; the alarm clock feature almost NEVER works. Here's the STUPID REASON why; once you set the alarm if ANYONE sends you a text or voice message overnight, the alarm WILL NOT SOUND. The phone'll flash and a message asks "continue application?" So if you're awake to see it flashing, you press "yes" and then the alarm sounds.

Has anyone heard of anything stupider than this? EVER??

I've posted this problem online but received zero help.

Here we have a marvel of technology that can make calls around the world, yet it's programmed by incompetent morons. How does this happen? There's nothing physically wrong with it- I know 2 other people with the same phone and theirs do the same stupid thing, it's not a malfunction, some pinhead actually programmed it to behave this way; WHY?

(ANd why do "tech geeks" constantly DEFEND incompetence like this? Usually by saying there's something wrong with ME because I'm mad at said company for making a malfunctioning device....but I'm not the one who misunderstands the very PURPOSE of an alarm clock function!!!)

Watch, I'll probably find help on this fetish forum that I can't get from any tech support...

BTW it's a Motorola phone; I'll be hesitant to buy another Motorola product ever because of this. And it's Boost Mobile- the WORST cell-phone service I've ever had!

I once bought a cell phone that didn't have a vibrate function. Well, it did, but it wasn't independent of the ringer. They'd both go off together, and there was no way to change that, which was about the stupidest thing I'd ever seen. The whole point of having the vibrate function is so that, if you happen to be in a place where it would be inappropriate for a phone to ring, the vibration can alert you of an incoming call in case you absolutely need to step out and answer it. It was a Nokia, by the way, which I ended up returning the very next day. Fortunately, I am very happy with my current Samsung.

I could use a little Nokia right about now. 🙂

I've had Virgin Mobile for several years now. It works adequately, but they have no coverage at all in rural areas (they use the Sprint network) and I think they're double-charging me (when I call for 2 minutes, they say I called for 5).

I've thought of getting a plan, but I've balked at the expense, hidden weasel-fees and termination fees (Verizon is in trouble with the FCC for charging US$350.00 for cancellations. They're probably doing that because some competitors will buy out your contract up to US$200.00 or so). Wal-Mart (boo-hissss!) has a plan by Tracfone (boo-hisss!) called Straight Talk. It's gotten decent reviews so far, including one from a friend who uses it, and it uses Verizon's network, which is best for rural areas. But I'm also leery of using a "sub-prime" phone service which may have fair to non-existent customer service. I called Tracfone's main number in Fla and I was infinitely on hold. I never even got to talk to an outsourced phone slave like most every corp uses these days.

I'd say 95% of phones are poorly designed. Anymore I think that iPhone, Android, and WebOS from Palm are the only well-thought-out mobile platforms.

Let's put it this way, Bella Donna has a Droid Eris and she's able to get along with it, sometimes even likes it. It takes some good thinking to get her to like something powered by silicon.

Yeah, that's an odd problem.Maybe you should just send it back and get another phone.I have an LG Xenon and it works fine but at&t is horrible and has horrible phones. That's why I wanted to get another phone from some other company but, supposedly you can only get phones from your cellphone providers

Yes, unless the derned things are "unlocked". There was a brouhaha among Iphone fans to get Apple to allow them to be used with networks other than AT&T ("American Theives & Thugs" - Archie Bunker, All In The Family)

But that's most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of!I mean seriously I should be able to get a darned phone from whatever company I darn well please! If it's my money I should be able to choose where I spend it.

Something's wrong....does anyone have a GOOD comment about a cell phone?

Why should these devices all suck? They're a marvel of technology, one of the greatest inventions ever, yet they're bogged down with idiotic features and all sorts of scam contracts attached to them.

Don't electronics companies learn from past designs and build off of them? It always seems like they design each new phone from scratch every year, with no memory of what went before. Why dont these designs EVOLVE towards perfection instead of degenerating into more avoidable stupidity? (Keep the good stuff and discard the bad from the previous models)

I hate to say this...they don't make good cell phones because they want you to have to come back every 2-4 years and buy another one so they can make more money

Yes! That's a big part of it...Somewhere deep in the bowels of every cell-phone company the "Pointy-Haired Boss" from Dilbert is planning the obsolescence of each phone...

The US did the same thing with cars in the 80s, "Planned Obsolescence"- that's why Japan kicked the crap out of us for decades. (nowadays most Japanese products are made in China)

I'm still looking for a pre-paid phone that's *really* pre-paid, meaning that if I buy the phone and pay in advance for a certain number of minutes, they don't expire every 30 or 90 days because of non-use.
