What's happened to creativity in today's movies and tv? It's often old hash used from the rusty cans of mediocrity. Pop dancing, stupid teens, grotesque humor, what happened to cause all this?

You can only go so far with 'new ideas' before things just start getting weird.

You can either revamp old material, or you can start delving into the dangerously abstract material. We've used up most everything inbetween. If you've watched House recently, you'll know what I mean by this. That show gets so weird sometimes; the plot twists are waaaaay too 'out-there' as well.

Well what about being weird? Which pompus pop star with a mental disorder said that creativity is lame?

In my opinion tv used to be watchable back in the 80s and early 90s but now its mostly crap.(reality tv shows are the bulk of it.) Movies have lost their edge, with plots that have become predictable for the most part. But then again there are only so many ideas in the world.:sleep1:

Did you know there are only 36 basic ways to form a skeleton for a story?

Culture today is completely hyper-active, filled with constant media and updates. To keep up with our growing demands, television networks need fast, cheap to make programs. If something works, they will milk it till the very last drop. Same goes for movies, the incredible amounts of money involved nowadays means that most movie studios like to play safe.

It's like always ordering the same dish in your favorite restaurant. The mainsteam public does not like to try out something if it is TOO new. (Exceptions to this, thankfully, do excist!)

I was mulling this over the other night while watching Blatty's The Ninth Configuration (his unofficial sequel to The Exorcist). It is a curious movie, and I suspect much of it went right over my head, but flaws and all, I'll take it(and the offbeat films from that era) over many of the blockbuster films coming out of Hollywood today.

As far as TV, I suspect it's alot cheaper to just feature everyday idiots overly in love with themselves (i.e.- reality TV) than to develop plots & characters and such for dramatic series and what all. There are some good, original things going on, tho'. HBO and AMC both have some interesting series. Hell, I dunno. I certainly don't miss the era of the sitcom much.

Creativity, I’m afraid, is going away. Most of the time we are spending in front of TV. Honestly, I hate this idiot box. Instead, I love reading books but hardly getting some time these days. Recently, i read one book when i was traveling from Bombay to Boston. I simply enjoyed reading book after a long time.

kids shows like A Kind of Magic (they ruined a Queen song), What's with Andy, Kids of Room402, The Tofus, Monster Buster Club, Fanboy & Chum Chum, Kick Buttowski, Iggy Arbunkle, Total Action Drama/Island, Carl2, Jacob Tutu, Braceface and other cartoons always seem to make me very furious about where the curiosity has left off to. 😛issed

I miss GOOD Action/Adventure/Scifi/Fantasy/Superheroes cartoons & Old School 70s/80s/90s Anime and Tokusatsu now! 🙁
