Ok, maybe is because I grown up without all that kinda crap, but i wish if you can clarify my situation here.

Is all about High School stories, movies, and experiences real?

Is that well accepted in the States?

(I mean about the pop girls, the football guys, etc)

Are Fraternities and Sororities so stupidly wierd.

I'm asking from my place cause is difficult to me think that a Society can live with so superficial values.

Please tell me there are more than that!

Some can be, lots aren't. Lots of things in movies are exaggerated to a degree. Lots of things are based on stereotypes. It really depends on where you are located, I think. I've never lived in a place that had existing fraternities and sororities, but they do exist, and I don't think they're always like they are portrayed in movies.

Don't believe everything you see in movies. Real life ain't like that.

Paul, as someone who experienced this.. I can explain a bit about it.

High school is often like seen in the movies. I went to a top high school, in a wealthy town in the state of Connecticut. At that point, I was a quiet person, in the "nerd" crowd. Much of the high school was dominated by jocks, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by fraternities and sororities being "stupdily weird". I wasnt in one, although I could have pledged two frats if I wanted to, but chose to pass. Some frat girls and sorority guys were bitches/assholes, while others weren't bad. College is such a diverse place, that it really didnt matter, because virtually anyone had a group of friends, even people who werent in frats or sororities.

I can also say that yes, sometimes in school, especially High School, people had superficial values, basing their dates on the looks, and social status of people. By college, that had changed somewhat.

Hope that explains what you're asking.

Mitch

High Schools can be very stereotypical and also can not be. The school I went to was pretty diverse and lots of people were involved with many different things. Their were cliques of course but one could always have friends in different circles and I never really felt that any group looked down on another.

As far as Greek Organizations there are two types of them, the social ones who often very much fit the cliches (drinking what not, etc......) and the professional which are very strictly anti- hazing and have clear identifiable and purposeful goals. I myself am in a women's professional fraternity and it has been nothing but fun and rewarding. Beyond college I have been able to participate and hope to for many years.

Have you seen the movie "Dare" i think is an indie one.

It make me think, on what kind of society are we living, and I kwow that all the places are different, but some values are universal.

And I'd seen the Tickling Paradise clip about the sorority and I was preety sure that it was something like that, i mean without the tickling of course, haha!

I was in a social fraternity and was a "jock" in HS even though I started college classes in my junior year. Being in a fraternity was awesome!! It's nothing like it's portrayed on tv or the movies. Perhaps some are but we were just a group of young men that shared the joys and sorrows of being young men at a university together. We partied together, we fought, we'd rally around guys that had issues and kicked the butt of the guys that were falling off track. We socialized alot and it's funny, those individuals we used to do shots with are now the same guys/girls you network with when it comes to jobs and other opportunities. I can't go to a major US city and not know one person. Being in a fraternity also kick started my dating life. Sorority girls are awesome! Almost forgot the charity work we do/did! My fraternity is responsible for the largest food drive in the nation! We also raised thousands of dollars for big brothers big sisters. The fraternity I advised raisedthousands of dollars for an organization that fights against child slavery in Haiti after the earth quake there. We also raised alot of cash for the organization "best buddys".

I can see how from the outside fraternities and sororities look like something they're not.
