Nicely done, sirs. That should make the whole shebang marginally less boring.

Marginally.

Because let's face it it's not really a "sport" as such, is it? No, it's not. It's driving cars and stuff, and it's stupid. And boring.

Oh alright she won't make it any more interesting and probably won't even get me to watch it, but bloody hell is she fit or what? Is she some sort of yank or something? I'm supposing the fact she's an ex-cheerleader means she is some sort of yank or possibly some form of Canadian. Answers on a postcard to "Deranged Stalker, Cell 249A, E Wing, HMP Walton, Liverpool".

Hang on a moment there, young man. F1 drivers are very fit. They need to be. It doesn't look like it, but they need to be fit to drive those things, sustaining large amounts of G-force for a sustained period of time - it's hard work.

I'm glad that a woman has decided to try out for F1. I've wondered why it hasn't happened before, too. Maybe it'll get those men to drive better knowing that there is a woman on the track and that they don't want to get 'beaten by a woman'.

Kudos to her, I hope she gets to drive professionally in F1.

Snappy, I kind of agree with you, gone are the days that the guys are really racing each other, its one car at the front and the rest following. I know we at times get the front cars overtaking but then most of this is done in the pit stops.

I miss the heyday of Mansell/Senna/Prost and Piquet.

Yeah they do keep fit, I mean look at Schuee he was a mean machine, I think he now has a stint at racing bikes.

I hope she does well too and be interesting to see how the macho men of the track take to her in either a race role or a bird role 😛

No it isn't. You're driving a car fast around a track. The reason they get fit is to give people who defend the silly non-sport something to point at when they're trying to defend the "sport", so they can say "but look, they're as fit as footballers, and they're mostly fitter than professional boxers!". Arooo maybe so, but until such day as they run around the track instead of piloting a big machine around it they're not sportsmen, they're just exceptionally fit car drivers.

Also rallying wins Formula 1 at being a motorsport.

Also when I said Danica Patrick was fit I meant she was physically attractive. Which she is. It's a vernacular thing, Tarquin; do try to keep up won't you?

You silly arsehole, you.

They have to be fit to cope with the G-force of all the corners; multiply that with the number of laps and you have heavy fatigue issues, unless you're very fit.

I know you were referring to her as attractive 'fit', you feckless buffoon.

Whilst I respect WRC, I prefer F1.

Danica has actually been in the racing circuit for some time. She's almost, ALMOST, enough of a reason to watch it. Almost.

I don't know much about Racing...

Racing is about as interesting to me as Pro Wrestling is to some people. But even none wrestling fans know a hot wrestling babe when they see one, and Danica Patrick is a hot racing babe if evertheir was one. I am glad she is kicking butt in the biz too. Like Kenny Rogers once said "The top golfer is black and the top rapper is white, and it's about time!" Well maybe we'll be screwing with the space time continuem some more with the top racing car driver being a woman one day lol.

Well, it's much better than watching baseball, good sirs!

I concur, old sport! Neither are as good as watching the cricket to be honest. Except when England are getting spanked by some old colonial nation. Then I'd rather be watching some men driving a weird looking car around and around and around. Especially if one of those men was Danica Patrick, because she is fit.

And not in the way that Lewis Hamilton is fit. And a wanker.

It amazes me that people think anyone can get into a racecar and just drive it. It's so much more than that and being fit is one of the top requirements.

As far as being fit....It's not unusual, in our racing series, to see the drivers out running the track in the morning before any racing begins. Our courses have turns, steep hills and are generally a bit over 2 miles long and several of the drivers do a couple of laps running the whole way. And I know that at Le Mans (France) there are several of our drivers who run the entire 8+ mile circuit. It's great exercise and gives them an up close view to the different corners and specific areas of the track that are hard to see at 200+ MPH.

I've also seen lots of motorcycle racers doing the same thing in the morning before our races.

I'm not much of an F1 fan nor am I much of a fan of Danica but I am a fan to racing in general especially sport car racing. I've seen lots of the activities that our racers do to keep themselves in shape for a race. They're very focused and want to do whatever is necessary to keep themselves in tip top shape for their job - racing cars.
