Steve started talking, quickly, after Steve had placed the late night call to Ross. This was unusual for Steve.
"Ross, after you got on the plane, I did some checking. Supposedly, this guy who was just a "Thought " about a deal from up north here in the US, says that Fish gave him a "commitment" that RFS either Canada or USA is going to buy this guy's company, for one hundred million dollars! That bastard Fish did this without even discussing it with any of us!" Steve exclaimed.
Ross felt.. overwhelmed. "John, its late there, an hour later here. We are both very tired. Please let me get some sleep, I will call you in the morning, we will figure this out, and one of us will call Fish, and either get him to give us a full explanation for this, refuse to sign the papers, or, if we do have to sign, We will get Tom from Philadelphia or someone he knows, to tie both Fish and this guy up, in such knots with this deal, that there will be no way any of us can get screwed on it, okay?" Ross said.
"Okay, Ross, I know you're exhausted from the trip and the traveling. We will talk later today. Have a good night" Steve said.
"You too, partner" Ross said, hanging up the phone.
Ross went into the bedroom, got undressed, and put on a clean pair of boxer shorts, discarding his clothes from that day, and the ones from the trip to OKC. Then he got into bed, sighed, and Kayley put her arms around him.
"That must have been ominous if Steve called you at such an hour. What?" Kayley started.
Ross sighed. "Honey, I'm exhausted. Please just let's lie here. You have to go in, and I dont know what I am going to do. I have to call Steve back later this morning, and then maybe call Fish and see what fucking mess that the bastard caused this time. I need to clear my head" Ross said.
"Okay, goodnight, baby" Kayley said.
"Night, Kale" Ross said, kissing Kayley .
Ross forced himself to get three or at most four hours of sleep.
Ross undid himself from Kayley's grip, went into the kitchen, got an iced tea, then went into the den, drinking the iced tea, and staring out at the big full moon on that clear night.
Kayley appeared about an hour later, handing Ross a bagel, his meds, and another iced tea.
"You know that I would prefer you not go into the office today. You look troubled enough about whatever Steve told you" Kayley said.
Ross sighed. "I am not going anywhere until I get my troublemaking partner from Canada Mister Fish on the phone, and ask him what the Hell he did by committing for RFS as a whole to buy a one hundred million dollar company. Knowing me, you know that I am burning inside. I might spend all day writing nasty emails to Fish. Might have a conference call with Fish, Steve , Fritz, and whoever the Hell Fish committed to, to work out a deal if we do have to take this company. What I'm most concerned about is if Fish signed a blind contract with this guy, and what happens if Steve, Fritz and I refuse to sign because the deal does not look good? I dont want or need an unwanted lawsuit. I have enough problems with my health, and at RossShell already" Ross said.
"Just see the lay of the land, and text me to let me know where you will be" Kayley said quietly.
"I will" Ross said.
Kayley showered, dressed for work, and kissed Ross goodbye.
When 9 am came, Ross called Fish. He tried to remain calm.
"John, when I got home from OKC last night, Steve called me, and told me that supposedly, you agreed to what I hope is a deal in principle for one hundred million dollars. Could you please explain this?" Ross asked
"All I said, is.. "contingent" , Ross. Continigent on geology reports, what they find, if we all agree, and the price. No one is forcing the three of you to do anything. Nothing has been finalized yet. It looks good, but if the geology reports dont make sense, we back out, okay?" John said.
Ross sighed. "Okay, but we have to be careful. Please let me know how you want to do this, and we will proceed"
"I will. Please call Steve now and tip him off" John said.
"I will do just that. Have a good day, John" Ross said.
"You as well, partner" John said.
Ross then called Steve. "Steve, nothing to panic about. What John told me is that all it is , is a contingent deal. Based on Geologist reports, price, etc. Nothing out of an ordinary deal, or so he says" Ross said.
Steve cackled. "That's the part we dont know and never know about John, or so he says. Okay, we play it out, see the geology reports, and if it does not make sense, we tell Fish and this other guy no deal" Steve said.
"Right. We will keep in touch. I'm going into the office. I'm bored, and antsy, and I'm in the mood for some nice drama" Ross said sarcastically.
"Okayyy. Have a nice day. Take it nice and easy" Steve said.
"Oh . trust me, I will. See you" Ross said, clicking off the phone.
Ross called the office.
"It's Ross. I will be in about noon. I had a potential problem on something that I had to settle, but now there is no reason I cannot come in, so I will be in. Anything earth shattering?" Ross asked Vic.
"No, Ross All is quiet thankfully. We will see you when you get here" Vic said.
"That you will, Vic" Ross said.
Ross showered, put on slacks and a polo, hopped into an Uber to the office, and went up to his office.
After saying his hellos, and "thinking everything seemed calm" Ross was hit with a shock.
Ross looked through his e-mails , all seemed normal, and nothing in the snail mail seemed out of place either.
Out of nowhere, Ross's secretary Ashley nervously appeared at his door.
"Ashley, hi , come in . you look troubled. What's on your mind?" Ross asked.
"Ross, this came for you. A registered letter delivered by the guy who distributes the mail. I looked up the return address, and saw it is a law firm that I've never heard of."Ashley said
"Okay Thank You. I will handle it. " Ross said, as Ashley retreated.
Ross opened the letter.
Predictably, it was trouble. A lawsuit, against Ross's good buddy Timothy, on something Ross had no idea about
The anger was rising in Ross.
Yet, Ross resolved to stay calm, and not fly off the handle.
Ross went to John, the account manager who handled Tim's work.
"John, may I see you in my office, please" Ross said.,
John followed Ross into Ross's office, John's head down, as Ross closed the door.
Ross went to his chair. "John. you know that I always treat employees with civility, and I hope for the same from them, but, what the Hell is the meaning of this?!" Ross said, in a clipped tone.
"Ross, unfortunately, it turned out to be something that Mister Patrick sometimes does. He authorized me to sell one company for one price, buy another for another price, and when I called both parties, the numbers were out of whack. It did not seem like an emergency., and I knew you were very busy with your show in OKC, so I did not want to trouble you with this situation while you were there. I figured it could just wait. Then I saw that the letter you read came. I had a feeling it was a lawsuit. Please let me offer you my apologies, and if you want to do something to me, I understand" John said.
Ross sighed. "John,. I'm not happy, but thank you for being honest with me. If you're asking whether I'm going to fire you, I will say that based on what I know, my answer to that is no. I have to look into this. If it is what I think it is, that Tim pulled his game of commitment to do something with a company, and then changed his ever all over the place mind, then this is in his lap. Let me just find out the facts, okay? I'm not angry with you, because you were honest with me, and I see he is more to blame. I'm going to find some completely unrelated account for you to do while this is going on. I'm glad we had this talk" Ross said.
"Thank You, Ross. I promise. This will never happen again" John said.
"I know it wont, because, when I can deal with him, either later today, or tomorrow, I plan to tell Timothy in some not so nice words . Please just get back to work, I will give you, your new account, and dont worry about this for now. I will handle it" Ross said.
"Thank You, Ross" John said, leaving Ross's office.

After virtually no sleep, and the potential problem caused by Fish for RFS, Ross came into the office, to find that Timothy had done , what Timothy seemed to do best, cause chaos.
What would happen with the company with Fish, and with the situation with Timothy?
Those things would be seen.
