Some people have noted that some threads and posts have vanished in large numbers of late.

They are correct.

This is happenign for two reasons.

1) We had a spate of threads where people just got nasty. Rather then sorting them out we simply removed them. This only covers a small number though.

most left because of:

2) We are enforcing two new rules of late.

The first relates to the concept of 'thread hijacking'. This is when a thread is dragged off topic by a user, or group of users who decide to have a private conversation in the middle of it that has little or nothing to do with the topic of the thread. Many users were complaining that their threads were being made useless by hijacking. We are taking action to return threads to their topics. This involves removing the posts that diverged. If you want to have a private talk with another user about something open a new thread for it.

The second rule is 'post spamming'. Once again, the basis starts with user complaint. Users have been complaining that there recently has been a large number of posts of zero content being added to threads. For users on slow dialups this can really impact their forum experience when they go to a thread expecting to read commentary and content, and find a non-content post. We call these 'Me too' posts. I'm sure everyone has a firm idea of what we are talking about. We have been deleteing these as we find them.

Good idea...

...and long overdue. Myriads, you've already added hijacking to the list of Forum no-no's. Why not head some of the junk posts off and add post spamming to your "sticky" Forum Rules at the top of each forum?

Me Too...

J/K.

No, I just wanted to post on this thread to make sure that newer members do not feel afraid to post because they think that their post will become deleted. I understand the reasoning for deleting WORTHLESS posts, and I agree, I just want people to know the difference between worthless and worthwhile.

Thanks Mods!
