These two SHORT clips have always been at the top of my list as far as mainstream finds. Maybe it's just me but i hope some of you feel the same way as I do. When I saw this as a kid, I was almost traumatized!
First off….the situation, the dynamic between her and Gere is charged and very real, it feels very familiar, at least to me. If you've ever tickled somebody out of a bad moon, you'll know what I mean. Even the room echo, the way her laugh bounces off the walls…which brings us to the second point:
....it's Diane Keaton '77, need I say more? Her reactions are so hot, I almost get scared to watch 'em!. I literally get butterflies in my stomach thinking about it. If that's acting, then Diane Keaton is the best actress….oh wait, that's right, she WAS the best actress! That year! She won it for "Annie Hall"! 😉
In this movie, she's a young teacher exploring the singles bar scene where she meets bad boy Richard Gere. At the time this first clip opens, he stood her up earlier that evening…..so she went out….and our clip begins with her returning home late, only to find that he has gotten into her apartment and is hanging out. And she's pissed…..and what do you think he does to break her down? Let's put it this way: if you don't like giggling and kicking legs, don't watch this clip.
Clip two: at the end of clip one, she's still angry and marches into the bathroom. While she changes, Gere has been poking around her stuff, her tape collection, her things, teasing her about her stuff while she's yelling back at him, still pissed off. This second clip begins with her emerging from the bathroom, not happy at all. Gere figures if it worked once, it'll work again….and immediately goes on the attack….
Perhaps there are some who will dispute these clips and to them I wlll say that if this isn't Diane Keaton getting tickled in 1977, in her prime…..tickled by Richard Gere, in HIS prime….….we ain't going to get anything closer than this!
Now if that's not enough for you - and by golly, don't you think it should be?….we even have the scene as dubbed in German! For the first scene, they overdubbed their own ticklish giggling, very cute…..but for the second scene…..they wisely retained Keaton's unbelievable shriek of laughter.
Serves her right for going off with Tony Lacey…😉
